'Avatar' featurette dives into story, themes

A new international "Avatar" featurette has debuted online, and you can check it out after the jump. This one takes some time introducing the central story line, as well as the numerous themes of the film.

James Cameron's 3D action epic opens Dec. 18, 2009, and as you can see in this clip, there is a lot going on in terms of story and messages. That said, the main concept behind the idea is not entirely new.

"Avatar" takes us to a spectacular world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.

A quick look at Zoe Saldana in 'The Losers'

The folks at Entertainment Weekly are known for keeping things small, so here is a small photo of Zoe Saldana on the set of Sylvain White's "The Losers," based on the graphic novel by Andy Diggle and Jock.

The film follows a team of black ops commandos trying to survive are after learning their own government has planned to kill them. Chris Evans, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba and Columbus Short star.

Now, Saldana plays Aisha, a mysterious hellion who teams up with the gang. Although she's definitely capable of playing a badass fighter, she looks just darn innocent and sweet in the photo below, no?

New movie posters: 'Pandorum;' 'Avatar;' 'Priest'

It's a slow news day today, so I decided to do some movie poster catch-up, and here is what I came up with: three new one-sheets for "Avatar," "Pandorum" and "Priest."

The first poster below is from "Avatar" and shows Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. The film follows a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.

Next up is a one-sheet of Paul Bettany in Scott Stewart's "Priest," which follows a warrior priest who turns his back on the church to free his kidnapped niece from the hands of some ruthless vampires. The film is based on TokyoPop's comic book.

Finally, check out this final poster for Christian Alvart's sci-fi horror flick "Pandorum." Here's the synopsis: When two men emerge from a deep sleep in the middle of space, they discover that they have no memories of who they are and where they're going.

Five more join ‘Burning Palms’

Dylan McDermott, Zoe Saldana, Lake Bell, Nick Stahl, Paz Vega and Shannen Doherty have signed on to star in Christopher Landon’s upcoming satire” Burning Palms.”

According to THR, the film pokes fun at Angeleno stereotypes as told through five interlacing stories, with each character moving toward a dark and often comic fate.

Also on board are Emily Meade, Rosamund Pike, Colleen Camp, Jamie Chung and Robert Hoffman, among others.

Wow, what a cast.

Landon, who co-wrote “Blood and Chocolate” and D.J. Caruso’s “Disturbia,” is directing his own script.

Some cast members already are established performers. Saldana, who most recently starred in “Vantage Point,” will next be seen in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot. Bell is currently onscreen in “Pride and Glory.”

As for Vega, she will next be seen as Plaster of Paris in “The Spirit.” Meanwhile, Meade recently wrapped filming for Wes Craven’s “25/8.”
