'X-Men: First Class' to begin 2010?

Late last year, 20th Century Fox announced it would probably develop several other "X-Men" movies in the near future, and so far, the studio has kept its promise. While "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is out on DVD and a sequel is in development, Fox is also working on "Deadpool" and "X-Men: First Class."

Concerning "First Class," actor Tim Pocock, who starred as the young Cyclops in "Wolverine," said he would reprise his role in "Class" and probably start shooting the film next year. He posted that on his Twitter account. Who knows whether it's the real Tim, so please take this with a grain of salt at the moment.

Christopher McQuarrie to write 'Wolverine 2'

It's been a decent week for news about the sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and here's the latest: Christopher McQuarrie is set to write the script for Fox's follow-up.

McQuarrie won an Oscar for his "The Usual Suspects" screenplay, and he most recently wrote "Valkyrie" for Bryan Singer. He also wrote and directed 2000's "The Way of the Gun."

As Hugh Jackman announced recently, the sequel will be based on the series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, which was published in 1982. Wolverine will head to Japan this time.

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which Gavin Hood directed, proved to be quite successful at the box office earlier this year after pulling almost $180 million domestically.

Hugh Jackman talks Wolverine sequel

Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" proved to be quite successful at the box office after pulling almost $180 million domestically, so it's no surprise that a sequel to the action film is already in development. In fact, talks for "Wolverine 2" already emerged last year.

Last thing we heard Hugh Jackman was already all set to return as the title character, and now the actor has briefly updated his fans on where they are with "Wolverine 2."

At the Teen Choice Awards, where "Wolverine" took home a prize, Jackman mentioned Logan will be heading to Japan in the sequel.

"Japan is where we're heading, [and] we're starting to work on it now. We're in the ... first steps of developing that story," he told MTV backstage.

'Terminator Salvation' takes overseas b.o. lead

McG's "Terminator Salvation" took the No. 1 spot at the international box office this weekend with an impressive $67.5 million in ticket sales. The film's total currently stands at $97.2 million.

At No. 2, Shawn Levy's Ben Stiller comedy "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" collected another $26.7 million, bringing its overseas gross to $148.4 million.

Meanwhile, Ron Howard's "The Da Vinci Code" follow-up "Angels & Demons" finished in third place, taking home $22.3 million for a cumulative gross of $293 million.

Pixar's animated family adventure "Up" picked up $7.8 million at No. 4 for an early international total of $13.5 million. The film is currently playing in four markets on the circuit.

'Battle of the Smithsonian' tops overseas b.o.

Shawn Levy's Ben Stiller vehicle "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" climbed to the top spot at the international box office this weekend with an estimated $37.2 million in ticket sales. The film's total gross currently stands at $106 million.

At No. 2, Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons" took home another $32.9 million, lifting its cumulative gross to $251.7 million. Following in third place with $13 million was McG's "Terminator Salvation," which brought its overseas total to $23.1 million.

Meanwhile, Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" finished fourth with a weekend gross of $8.1 million and a total haul of $170.1 million. J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" scored the fifth spot on the international circuit this weekend, collecting $8 million for a cume of $101.5 million.

Opening this weekend were Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell," which picked up $4.4 million in three markets, and Pixar's "Up," which brought in $4.2 million.

Other results from the overseas box office: "Hannah Montana: The Movie" took home $2.4 million; "Monsters vs. Aliens" grabbed another $3.1 million; "State of Play" picked up $2.6 million; and "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" reached a total gross of $11.3 million.

'Angels & Demons' remains overseas b.o. king

Tom Hanks in Angels & DemonsRon Howard's "Angels & Demons" continued its overseas box office reign this weekend with $60.4 million in ticket sales in 99 territories. The film's total gross currently stands at $198.3 million.

At No. 2, Shawn Levy's "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" debuted with $50.1 million in 93 markets. In the sequel, Ben Stiller travels to the Smithsonian to rescue his friends from the hands of an evil Egyptian leader.

Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot collected $11.5 million in third place, lifting its cumulative gross to $87.5 million. Following at No. 4 with $7 million was "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which brought its international total to $156.7 million.

Finishing fifth this weekend was Peter Chelsom's "Hannah Montana: The Movie," which took home $3.1 million for a total haul of $31 million.

Other results from the overseas box office: "Monsters vs. Aliens" reached a total of $163 million; "Fast & Furious" brought its cume to $192.8 million; "Confessions of a Shopaholic" scored another $1.7 million; and "The Boat That Rocked" lifted its total haul to $21.8 million.

'Battle of the Smithsonian' wins box office race

“Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” outran its competition at the North American box office this weekend with $53.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Shawn Levy’s sequel to the 2006 hit family adventure stars Ben Stiller as a former museum security guard who heads to the Smithsonian to rescue his pals from the hands of a ruthless Egyptian leader. The film pulled $23.1 million more during opening weekend than its predecessor.

At No. 2, McG’s “Terminator Salvation” debuted with $43 million ($56.3 million total gross). The fourth installment in the popular “Terminator” series stars Christian Bale as John Connor, who leads the human resistance in the battle against the machines in the year 2018.

Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” slipped to third place, earning $21.9 million and reaching a domestic total of $183.5 million. Following closely in fourth place was Ron Howard’s “Angels & Demons,” which picked up $21.4 million for a cume of $81.5 million after two weeks in release.

'Terminator Salvation' owns Thursday box office

McG's "Terminator Salvation" dominated the North American box office Thursday with an estimated $13.3 million in ticket sales.

The fourth installment in the popular series stars Christian Bale as John Connor, who leads the resistance in the battle against the machines in 2018.

Still going strong at No. 2 was J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," which earned another $2.9 million for a total of $161.6 million. Following in third place was "Angels & Demons," which collected $2.6 million for a cume of $60.1 million.

Meanwhile, Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" picked up $811,037, bringing its total gross to $155.2 million. At No. 5, "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" reached a total haul of $42.1 million after Thursday's earnings of $545,387.

'Angels & Demons' wins overseas box office race

Tom Hanks in Angels & DemonsRon Howard's "Angels & Demons" delivered a solid weekend start at the international box office with an estimated $104.3 million in ticket sales. That's a strong $56.3 million more than its domestic opening weekend gross.

At No. 2, J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot collected another $21 million in 57 markets, reaching a total haul of $70 million. Domestically, the film earned $43 million this past weekend, bringing its worldwide cume to $217.6 million.

Following in third place overseas was "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which picked up $13.5 million for a cumulative gross of $144.5 million. Meanwhile, Zac Efron's comedy "17 Again" finished fourth with a weekend gross of $5.2 million and an international total of $48.3 million.

Peter Chelsom's "Hannah Montana: The Movie" slipped to No. 5 this weekend, scoring $4.7 million for a total gross of $26.1 million.

Other results from the overseas box office: "Coraline" pulled $2.7 million; "Fighting" took home $1.9 million; "Fast & Furious" reached a cume of $191.5 million; and "State of Play" brought its international gross to $18.8 million.

Box Office: 'Angels & Demons' earns $48M

Tom Hanks in Angels & DemonsRon Howard’s “Angels & Demons” topped the North American box office with $48 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The latest big-screen adaptation of one of Dan Brown’s popular novels struggled to beat J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek,” which came in close second with another $43 million this weekend. The sci-fi reboot’s domestic total currently stands at $147.6 million.

In “Angels,” Tom Hanks reprises his role as Robert Langdon, who heads to the Vatican to solve a murder and help prevent a ruthless terrorist attack. The film scored $29 million less during opening weekend than its predecessor, “The Da Vinci Code.”

At No. 3, Gavin Hood’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” collected $14.8 million, lifting its total haul to $151 million after three weeks in release. The film’s domestic gross already passed its estimated $150 million budget.
