Watch out: 'T.J. Hooker' comes to big screen

T.J. Hooker comes to big screen

While some television shows from the past are being resurrected and updated for today's TV viewers, others are headed for the big screen. The latest one to make the cut: "T.J. Hooker," the 1980s crime drama series produced by Aaron Spelling.

Variety reports the concept of the series will be repackaged into an action comedy, with Chuck Russell in talks to direct the project. Russell's credits include "The Mask" and "Eraser."

The original series starred William Shatner as Sgt. T.J. Hooker and focused on his adventures with his partner Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed). Heather Locklear co-starred in most of the show's 90 episodes.

Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson ("Wild Wild West") will write the script for the big-screen version, which apparently focuses on the relationship between Hooker and his dad. No actors are in talks yet.

No word yet on when you can plan on getting 'hooked' in theaters.

William Shatner in the Los Angeles Times

Geoff Boucher about William Shatner in the Los Angeles Times: "Shatner is shorter than you think and bow-legged after all those years in the saddle, but the main impression he makes is as a man of fairly intense focus."

The article examines Shatner's take on comics, fame and not being part of J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Trek" reboot:

“There is no need for me to know anything because I’m not a part of it. They will have an extraordinary campaign when it comes about, and my dear friend Leonard will be part of that and I would have loved to have been there with him."
