Daily film news dose: David Duchovny wants 'X-Files 3;' Selena Gomez hears thoughts

Here is a brief summary of today's film stories straight out of Hollywood and from across the Web:

• I hated "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," but as a diehard fan of the TV series, I know how to forgive and would still like to see another film. So does David Duchovny, who recently said he would love to do another film set in 2012. Read more right here.

• Selena Gomez from "The Wizards of Waverly Place" will star in New Line Cinema's "What Boys Want" from a comedy pitch by Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer. The film follows a teenage chick who can hear men's thoughts. Freakyyyyyy... (Variety)

Emma Stone may score 'Easy A'

The lovely Emma Stone is in talks to star in Will Gluck's upcoming Screen Gems comedy "Easy A," a modern reimagining of "The Scarlet Letter."

Written by playwright Bert V. Royal, the film centers on a high school student who seeks financial and personal gain by pretending to be the school slut.

According to Variety, the film will start lensing very soon. Gluck recently made his directorial debut with "Fired Up," an atrocity of a comedy. Gosh, I hated that flick!

Stone is known for her role in "Superbad." She also starred in "The Rocker," and she most recently appeared in "The House Buny." You can check her out soon in "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" and "Paper Man."

Movie Review: "Fired Up!"

Seen on: February 20, 2009

The players: Director: Will Gluck, Writer: Freedom Jones, Cast: Nicholas D'Agosto, Eric Christian Olsen, Sarah Roemer, Danneel Harris, David Walton

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.

The plot: Two popular high school friends skip footballl camp to join cheer camp and hook up with tons of girls...

Our thoughts: Will Gluck’s teen comedy “Fired Up!” is undoubtedly one of the most boring films I’ve seen so far this year. There’s absolutely nothing about this failure that amused me in any way, and by the time the end credits started to roll, I sincerely regretted wasting $7 and 94 minutes of my life.

'Fired Up!' web reviews

In Will Gluck's "Fired Up!," two popular high school friends decide to ditch football camp for cheerleader camp. Nicholas D'Agosto, Eric Christian Olsen and Sarah Roemer star, and this is what the Web's critics have to say about the comedy:

• Katey Rich at CinemaBlend: "As much as I would have liked to, there's just no checking your qualms at the door and riding along with 'Fired Up!,' as it manages to be unfunny and horrifying at nearly every turn."

RopeOfSilicon's Brad Brevet: "On a whole, the good outweighs the bad in 'Fired Up!,' much to my surprise and satisfaction."

FilmSchoolRejects' Robert Levin: "It’s all simple, least common denominator stuff with a cast of characters too moronic to inspire any empathy."

Cinematical's Jeffrey M. Anderson: "And thus all the jokes, and the plot, go about halfway, then pull back in shame -- unless they're gay jokes, in which case anything goes."

LatinoReview's Ron Henriques: "Though its a complete mess, there have been worse teen comedies than 'Fired Up', but it just feels like lazy filmmaking."

Two new 'Fired Up' spots not funny at all

January hasn't been that great as far as new, wide releases go, and to be honest, February doesn't really look that great either.

One of the flicks opening next month is "Fired Up," yet another silly teen comedy about two idiots doing everything they can to get laid.

This time around, the two lead boys are actually two popular high school friends who decide to attend cheer camp to meet hot girls, etc.

Anyway, here are two new TV spots for the comedy, which opens Feb. 20. I can't even say I'm the least bit excited about this flick, because most of the footage below looks pretty awful and anything but funny.

Could "Fired Up" be this year's "College"? Let's hope not...
