The players: Director: Neal Brennan, Writers: Andy Stock, Rick Stempson, Cast: Jeremy Piven, Ving Rhames, David Koechner, Kathryn Hahn, Tony Hale, James Brolin, Ed Helms

The plot: Salesman Don Ready (Jeremy Piven) heads to a failing car dealership to set up a massive three-day sale event and save the place.

Our thoughts: Jeremy Piven’s got the goods and delivers tons of big-screen fun in Neal Brennan’s “The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard,” a surprisingly amusing comedy about an eccentric salesman who heads out to save a failing car dealership and ends up saving himself in the process. Let’s find out what this guy is all about.

New red band clip from 'The Goods' debuts online

Do you have the goods? If not, don't worry. Jeremy Piven will teach you what you need in Neal Brennan's upcoming comedy "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard," due in theaters Aug. 14, 2009.

A red band clip from the flick has just debuted online, and I suggest you check it out below. It features Piven giving a quick speech during a dinner, and yes, it's kind of funny too.

Piven stars as Don Ready, an eccentric salesman hired by a flailing auto dealership to turn their Fourth of July sale into a majorly profitable event.

Ed Helms, Ken Jeong, T.J. Miller, David Koechner, Ving Rhames and Kathryn Hahn co-star. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay ("Step Brothers," "Anchorman") are producing.

First 'Surrogates' trailer pops up online

The first trailer for Jonathan Mostow's upcoming sci-fi action flick "Surrogates" has debuted online, and you can check it out below. Robot flicks are all over the big-screen these days, and this one is no different: the film is set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots. Bruce Willis plays a cop forced to leave his home for the first time in years to investigate the murders of some of these surrogates.

The cast also includes Ving Rhames, Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, James Francis Ginty and Michael O'Toole. "Surrogates" is based on a graphic novel, and even though I can't say I'm overly excited about this first trailer, I still admit I'm curious to find out how intriguing the film is when it opens in theaters Sept. 25, 2009. Share your trailer thoughts after the jump.

Daily news dose: Stephen Dorff to play porn 'Star;' Kellan Lutz boards 'Nightmare' reboot

Here's your dose of film news for April 24, 2009:

• Stephen Dorff has signed on to star in Tom Brady's "Born to Be a Star," a comedy Adam Sandler co-wrote and is set to produce with Jack Giarraputo. The plot follows a nerd (Nick Swardson) who discovers his quiet parents were famous porn stars during the 1970s. Christina Ricci co-stars, and Dorff is playing a porn star. (Variety)

• Kellan Lutz and Rooney Mara have joined Thomas Dekker, Jackie Earle Haley and Kyle Gallner in New Line Cinema's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" reboot. Lutz would play a school jock, while Mara is on-board to play a girl eager to leave town after graduation. Samuel Bayer is directing the flick. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Brian Koppelman and David Levien are set to adpat Josh Bazell's novel "Beat the Reaper" for New Regency, according to Variety. Leonardo DiCaprio may star in the flick, which follows an ER doctor whose life takes a tough turn when a mobster recognizes him from his previous life as a hit man.

• According to ShockTillYouDrop, Richard Dreyfuss and Ving Rhames will appear in Alexandre Aja's upcoming horror flick "Piranha 3-D." Elisabeth Shue and Adam Scott are already on board. The film is based on Joe Dante's 1978 film of the same title.

Daily news dose: Dakota Fanning to star in 'New Moon'?; 'Lost Planet' to cost $2M

Here's your dose of quick news bits for Jan. 22, 2008...

• According to E!Online, Dakota Fanning is in talks to star as Jane in Chris Weitz's "New Moon," the sequel to "Twilight." “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth,” according to a source. Fanning as a bloodsucker? Well, well...

• Ving Rhames has signed on to star in Lonny Price's "Master Harold... and the Boys," the big-screen adaptation of Athol Fugard's 1982 play. The Hollywood Reporter has more: "Rhames takes on the lead role of Sam, a dignified, noble waiter who is a father figure to young Hally."

Capcom has announced that the big-screen adaptation of its video game "Lost Planet" may cost up to $200 million. "I think that it is because of our original IPs that we are able to try something so ambitious," said Capcom's Toshihiro Tokumaru.

• Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut "Sympathy for Delicious," which was put on hold last year after the death of his brother, is now officially back on track with Orlando Bloom and Laura Linney among the leads. The film focuses on a paralyzed disc jockey who mysteriously becomes a faith healer. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Stars line up for ‘Rogue’s Gallery’

Maggie Q and Ving Rhames are just two of many to join Fouad Mikati’s upcoming action comedy “Rogue’s Gallery,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Brian Watanabe and Abe Levy, the film centers on the battle between government spy teams in an underground facility. Ellen Barkin, Rob Corddry, Adam Scott and Odette Yustman co-star.

Richard Kelly’s Darko Entertainment handles the production of the project, which kicked off principal photography last week in Los Angeles. Darko is also currently working on “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell,” an adaptation of Tucker Max’s famous memoir.

Maggie Q most recently starred in Marcel Langenegger’s thriller “Deception.” She will next be seen in “New York, I Love You.” Rhames was last seen in “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.” Scott is currently onscreen in “Step Brothers.”

Although I have no clue what this flick will look like when it hits theaters, I can only say the idea sounds pretty cool. Now that the film already boasts an A-list cast, let’s just hope the script is worth the wait.
