Vincent Cassel returns in 'Eastern Promises 2'

Here's a piece of good news: Vincent Cassel will return in "Eastern Promises." This according to the folks at Coming Soon, who spoke with the actor recently. David Cronenberg is developing the sequel.

"We talked very seriously about 'Eastern Promises 2' and it's going to be shot in Russia with Viggo and myself," Cassel said. Viggo Mortensen will return as well. No start date has been set for the sequel yet.

Cronenberg is not a big fans of sequels, but he's fully on board for this one. "Eastern Promises" really delivered the goods, and I can't wait to see the gang back together. Cassel also stars in "Black Swan."

Utah Film Critics pick 'Air' as year's best film

Up in the Air

The Utah Film Critics Association picked Jason Reitman's drama "Up in the Air" as the best film of 2009. The film beat runners-up "The Hurt Locker" and Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds."

Wes Anderson's "Fantastic Mr. Fox" was voted best animated film, and Anderson and Noah Baumbach also took home the award for best screenplay. "Basterds" and "(500) Days of Summer" were runners-up.

In the best actor category, Viggo Mortensen took home the top prize for his stunning performance in  John Hillcoat's superb drama "The Road," a film I believe deserves much more recognition in the award world.

Movie Review: “The Road”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: November 6, 2009

The players: Director: John Hillcoat, Writer: Joe Penhall, Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron

Facts of interest: Based on the book by Cormac McCarthy.

The plot: The film follows the story of a man and his son who try to reach the coast in a post-apocalyptic world.

Our thoughts: John Hillcoat’s “The Road” really blew my mind. I never read Cormac McCarthy’s acclaimed novel, but this big-screen adaptation kidnapped my attention right away and offered me an experience I’ll never forget. Poignant, visually stunning and boasting beautiful acting, this is without doubt one of the best films I’ve seen this year.

Brand-new poster for 'The Road' hits

Yesterday I received a new one-sheet for John Hillcoat's new drama "The Road," based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy. After several release date changes, the film finally opens in theaters this Wednesday.

This is the tale of a journey taken by a father (Viggo Mortensen) and his young son across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth.

The film is based on Cormac McCarthy's novel, and it co-stars Charlize Theron, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall. I saw it last week and loved it, even though I never read the book.

No 'The Road' in October; film postponed again!

Viggo Mortensen in The Road

At least this time, it's not a major release date change. But yes, Dimension Films has decided to move John Hillcoat's upcoming drama "The Road" from Oct. 16, 2009 to Nov. 25.

Considering this is not the first time the film is postponed, I'm not so sure it will be the last. I'll believe it when I actually walk into the screening on that day. Or not.. Well, at least it will come to theaters, right?

Here's the powerful trailer for 'The Road'

Earlier this month, the Weinstein Co. announced an Oct. 16, 2009 release day for John Hillcoat's "The Road," and now we finally have a trailer. And what a powerful one this is! Early screenshots from the film promised a compellingly dark look, and as you can see after the jump, the footage looks quite thrilling as well.

'The Road' finally gets late 2009 release date

The Road stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron

Remember "The Road"? You know, John Hillcoat's big-screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same title? Yes, I know we haven't heard much about it in quite a while, but according to the Weinstein Co., the film will finally be released in theaters Oct. 16, 2009. "The Road" was initially suppoed to open around the end of 2008, but delays in pos-production forced the studio to push back the release.

Viggo Mortensen talks 'The Road' release delay

Back in October, we learned John Hillcoat's new movie "The Road," which is based on Cormac McCarthy's novel, would be pushed back to 2009 because post-production was still in progress.

I was pretty sad about this announcement, but I got over it. Someone else who's disappointed is the film's lead actor, Viggo Mortensen, who discussed the film's delay with AICN.

"My understanding is that they know that they’ve got a story that a lot of people want to see, because of the book," he said.

"And, I think that they are really aware of the fact that they’ve got one chance to do it, and if there’s any little things that they still want to work on a little more, to get it just right, whether it’s the music--I don’t know what it is--a variety of things, they want to do it right."

Yeah, Viggo's right. Let them have all the time they need. After all, we want it to be perfect right? The delay sure is disappointing, but we have plenty of other exciting flicks coming up that will help us reduce the wait.

Will ‘The Road’ be pushed back to 2009?

I am eagerly awaiting the release of John Hillcoat’s upcoming drama “The Road,” but according to the Hollywood Reporter, I may have to wait a little longer than expected.

The trade says the film based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel will be delayed because post-production is still in progress and it simply won’t be done in time for the scheduled Nov. 14 limited release (the film was expected to open wide on Nov. 26).

At this hour, I don’t have any information about a new date. Although studio execs and producers are apparently meeting today to discuss the issue, the film may actually not open until next year.

I obviously haven’t seen any footage from it yet, but from what I’ve heard and read, it may just as well be an awards contender. Let’s just hope they will get it out there in time.

Starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Guy Pierce, Robert Duvall and Kodi Smit-McPhee, “The Road” is a post-apocalypic tale about a man and his son who travel down a road to reach the sea.

Back in August, we posted a wonderful still from “The Road” right here.
