'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm throws 'Sucker Punch'

Jon Hamm

Let me tell you, I feel terrible because I still haven't seen one single episode of "Mad Men," but right now, I just don't have the freaking time. I promise it's on my list though. Anyway, "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm has now joined Zack Snyder's upcoming action adventure "Sucker Punch," this according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Hamm joins the already cast Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish and Carla Gugino. The flick is set in the '50s and centers on a girl locked inside a mental institution. During her stay there, she imagines an alternative reality in which she plans her escape...

Movie Review: “Bandslam”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: August 14, 2009

The players: Director: Todd Graff, Writers: Todd Graff, Josh A. Cagan, Cast: Alyson Michalka, Gaelan Connell, Vanessa Hudgens, Lisa Kudrow

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: A high school outsider moves to a new town and school and assembles a band just in time for the Bandslam competition.

Our thoughts: An outsider with a passion for music heads to a new town and high school and puts together an awesome rock band just in time for a popular onstage competition. Oh, and while all this is going on, he also learns how to deal with his dark past, how to kiss a girl, and of course, how to fall in love. Did I mention he also writes letters to David Bowie?

This and that in film news: 'Green Hornet' casting call; Vanessa Hudgens to strip for flick?

It's a rather slow news day so far in the world of film, but here are some things you shouldn't miss on this July 14, 2009:

• Stephen Chow seems to be no longer involved at all with the upcoming "The Green Hornet." Chow was originally set to direct and star in the project, but he dropped the position as director after failing to work out some 'creative differences.' News now comes from Spoiler TV that a search for a new actor for his role is in progress. The film follows Britt Reid (Seth Rogen), who inherits his dad's newspaper and fights crime as a masked hero at night. The role up for grabs is that of Kato, Reid's sidekick.

• The folks at ShockTillYouDrop report Universal has changed the title of its upcoming adaptation of Darren Shan's novel "Cirque du Freak" to "The Vampire's Assitant" (title of the second book). The film centers on a young man who attends a freak show and later joins the club. Also, the film's realease has been moved up from Jan. 15, 2010 to Oct. 23, 2009. It will go up against "Saw VI."

• Vanessa Hudgens is apparently dropping her clothes again for her role in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Sucker Punch." Metro reports the "High School Musical" actress will be stripping in the flick: "I'm playing a character named Blondie and it's set in a brothel in the 1950s, so there's not a whole lot of clothes." So, who's looking forward to that?

Daily news dose: Elizabeth Banks is 'Forever 21;' Schwarzenegger to show up in 'Salvation'

Here's your daily dose of film news for April 22, 2009:

• Elizabeth Banks will star in and produce DreamWorks' comedy "Forever 21," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Mike Culbert and Mike Pellettieri wrote the script, but plot details are strictly kept under wraps for now. Banks recently starred in the terrible horror flick "The Uninvited" and the hilarious comedy "Role Models."

• "High School Musical" sweetheart Vanessa Hudgens will play the lead role in CBS Films' "Beastly," a reimagining of "Beauty and the Beast." Daniel Barnz, the guy behind "Phoebe in Wonderland," wrote the script and will direct the project, according to Variety. Hudgens will also star in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Sucker Punch."

• As you may have already heard, Arnold Schwarzenegger will show up in McG's upcoming "Terminator Salvation." He's just not going to stand in front of a camera. In fact, Arnie will be digitally added to the film, which will hit May 21, 2009. Schwarzenegger said he's too busy to participate in the project in any other capacity. (Variety)

• James Marsden is set to star in Rod Lurie's reimagining of "Straw Dogs," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film will focus on a screenwriter whose relationship with his wife starts to change for the worse after they move to her hometown in the South. Marsden recently starred in "Sex Drive."

Seyfried, Hudgens to star in 'Sucker Punch'

The release of "Watchmen" is not stopping Zack Snyder from working on his upcoming projects.

In fact, Snyder is busy casting "Sucker Punch," and according to the Hollywood Reporter, Amanda Seyfried is in negotiations to join the cast.

Also in talks to board the project are Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone. Interesting, interesting!

The fantasy action flick is set in the 1950s, and centers on a girl locked inside a mental institution. During her stay there, she imagines an alternative reality in which she plans her escape by trying to steal five objects she needs to regain her freedom.

The trade says Seyfried would play the lead character, while the others would star as her inmates, who will also show up in her imagined reality.

A film about a bunch of hot actresses locked up in a crazy house? Sounds fun and creepy at the same time, doesn't it?

Seyfried starred in the dreadful adaptation of "Mamma Mia!" Cornish, the star of the fantastic drama "Somersault," also played in "Stop-Loss." Stone recently appeared in "The Rocker."

Review: “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”

Seen on: October 25, 2008

The players: Director: Kenny Ortega, Writer: Peter Barsocchini, Cast: Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu

Facts of interest: First "High School Musical" to hit the big screen.

The plot: It's senior year, and Troy and his gang are gearing up for graduation, prom and the college life. But graduating also means separating from friends and loved ones, which is not always easy to deal with.

Our thoughts: I am by no means a “High School Musical” expert, and yes, I do admit I haven’t even seen the first two films. I know I‘m not qualified to compare “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” to its predecessors, but here’s what I think about the latest installment in the popular series: it’s not disastrous, but it could’ve been a lot better.
