Movie Review: "The A-Team"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: June 8, 2010

The players: Director: Joe Carnahan, Writer: Brian Bloom, Joe Carnahan, Cast: Liam Neeson, Patrick Wilson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson, Sharlto Copley

Facts of interest: Joe Carnahan also helmed "Narc."

The plot: Based on the TV series, the film follows a group of soliders trying to clear their names after being set up by a bunch of bad guys.

Our thoughts: It sure took long enough for this one to hit the big screen, but now “The A-Team” has finally arrived in theaters, and I would be lying if I told you I didn’t have a blast watching this crazy thing. Okay, it’s by far not a perfect action adventure, but then again, despite its utter ridiculousness, this movie is just so much fun to watch. Seriously, do yourself a favor and check it out.

First 'The A-Team' reviews debut online

The A-Team Reviews

I'm not allowed to post my review of Joe Carnahan's "The A-Team" until tomorrow afternoon, so I will be a nice guy and follow the rules. What I can tell you though is that I really enjoyed it. It's a fun action piece.

The first reviews are now hitting the Web, and before you know it, there will be more of them than we can handle. Here is what some folks who have posted their review online have to say about "The A-Team."

Bryan Buss in Moving Pictures: "There are jaw-dropping stunts, furiously fast editing, a federal agent and Cooper, who is in stunning shape and runs around showing it off for a fair portion of the film."

The Couch Potato reviews (the original) 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'

Ah, the images. Freddy Krueger cutting off two of his own fingers and giggling like a schoolgirl. Amanda Wyss, belly sliced open, rebounding off the walls and ceiling of her parents' bedroom. A bed sheet slithering like a snake around the neck of a teenaged ass and hanging him from the bars of a jail cell. The iconic finger-blades poking out of the bubbles in a tub occupied by an unsuspecting teen girl.

'I Dream of Jeannie' movie still a go...

I believe no one out there really needs this movie, but it looks like "I Dream of Jeannie" is not quite dead yet. The Los Angeles Times reports Sheila Callaghan from "The United States of Tara" has been recruited to write a draft. The film will obviously be based on the popular sitcom. I just don't understand why they are all so keen on doing this adaptation, especially considering many efforts to do so already failed in the past. Oh well...

'The A-Team' gets a new trailer

"The A-Team" just received a brand-new trailer, and you can check it out after the jump. It's just as fast-paced as the previous one, but there is a whole lot more going on in this new version. We also get a better look at the characters and their attitudes, and we also get a better preview of the insane action sequences we'll be able to enjoy (or laugh about) when the film opens in theaters June 11, 2010.

The big-screen adaptation of the TV series stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Patrick Wilson. Cooper is cast as Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Neeson is on board to play Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, 'Rampage' Jackson is B.A. Baracus and Copley is Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock. They play former soldiers hunted down for a crime they didn't commit.

'24' feature film will happen, but when?

Twentieth Century Fox will bring Jack Bauer and "24" to the big screen for sure, but nobody really has an idea about when this is going to happen. In fact, there is a chance we may wait for it for a long time.

Variety confirmed Billy Ray would write the script for the feature version of the successful action TV series. Ray also wrote and helmed "Shattered Glass" and "Breach," and he wrote "State of Play" as well.

Ray pitched his idea to Fox, the trade says, and they loved it. His idea would take Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) to Europe. Sutherland as well is supposedly happy about this project moving along.

The only problem is time and the fate of the TV show, which is undecided at this point. If it heads into a new season, it will be tough to shoot a feature at the same time. Hence, production may be delayed for a while.

Also, sources say the project is at very early developmental stages, which could further push back any filming start. That said, I sincerely believe a "24" flick would perform very well around the world.

That's exactly why Fox want to do it, right?
