Box Office: 'Just Go With It' beats Bieber?

Just Go With It tops box office

It's pretty safe to say that this weekend's battle at the North American box office is too close to call. That said, based on estimates, Adam Sandler's comedy "Just Go With It" managed to beat "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" by less than $1 million. "Just Go With It" brought in $31 million for the top spot.

Sony's comedy, which also stars Jennifer Aniston, earned an average of $8,737 per theater at 3,548 locations. Following with $30.2 million was the Bieber concert flick, which pulled an average of $9,746 per location at 3,105 sites. The real winner will be crowned once actuals roll around in the next day or so.

Meanwhile, new entry "Gnomeo and Juliet" debuted in third place with a solid $25.5 million. The animated tale also managed to beat Kevin Macdonald's new adventure "The Eagle," which picked up a rather disappointing $8.5 million at No. 4.

Box Office: 'The Roommate' scares up $15M

The Roommate movie rocks box office

Despite expected negative reviews from across the board, Christian E. Christiansen's new thriller "The Roommate" easily took over the North American box office this weekend with $15.6 million in ticket sales at 2,534 sites. Not a bad result for a flick that only cost around $16 million to make.

The title of this one says it all: a college student faces hell when her new roommate turns out to be a super freak. The film stars Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly and Cam Gigandet, and it will probably take a big dive at the b.o. next weekend. For now though, it's the No.1 movie nationwide, earning an average of $6,156 per theater.

Coens' 'True Grit' gets 2010 release date

Joel and Ethan Coen

Good news for all fans of Joel and Ethan Coen! The super brothers' new film and remake "True Grit" will open Christmas Day this year, courtesy of Paramount Pictures. Thanks Paramount, you've made my day!

Jeff Bridges is on board to play a U.S. marshal who joins forces with a lawman (Matt Damon) and a 14-year-old girl to track down her dad's killer. Josh Brolin is playing the bad guy.

The Coens last directed "A Serious Man," a strange little film I had some trouble with but still ended up enjoying in a way. It's one of the films I have trouble analyzing, but at least it's one that sticks with me.
