'The Crazies' trailer debuts online

Breck Eisner's remake of the 1973 George A. Romero horror flick "The Crazies" now has a first official trailer, and you can check it out after the jump. My first impression: this doesn't look that bad at this stage.

Movie Review: “A Perfect Getaway”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: August 10, 2009

The players: Director: David Twohy, Writer: David Twohy, Cast: Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant, Milla Jovovich, Kiele Sanchez, Marley Shelton, Chris Hemsworth

Facts of interest: Twohy also directed "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick."

The plot: Two newlyweds travel to Hawaii for a hiking trip only to discover two dangerous killers are on the loose not far away from them.

Our thoughts: David Twohy’s “A Perfect Getaway” is one of those thrillers trying to mislead audiences so it can pull off a huge twist in the end, but as far as I’m concerned, it clearly failed to surprise me. The film is by no means a total waste of time, but its lack of suspense and inability to engage my interest makes it something I would not want to revisit.

Daily news dose: Will Ferrell leaves 'Neighborhood;' Could Katie Holmes star in 'Sex and the City 2'?

Will Ferrell

Here's your dose of film news for August 3, 2009:

• Will Ferrell was attached to star in and David Dobkin ("Fred Claus") was set to direct 20th Century Fox's comedy "Neighborhood Watch," but both exited the project, according to Variety. The film follows a city guy who moves to suburbia, joins the neighborhood watch, and quickly uncovers a major conspiracy.

• This is just a rumor at this point, but according to TVNZ, Katie Holmes has been approached to star in "Sex and the City 2." Apparently, Holmes would play big-time company executive who will clash with Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones. I'll believe it when I see her on the screen.

• Earlier this year we found out Fox is prepping "Hitman 2," and according to ComingSoon, Timothy Olyphant said he may return as Agent 47 if the studio wanted him back. "If they want me to do another one, I supposed they could have me, yes," he said.

Fox gears up for 'Hitman 2'

Xavier Gens' 2007 big-screen adaptation of "Hitman" pretty much sucked, but the film picked up around $100 million on a $24 million budget, and that's reason enough for Fox to go after a sequel.

Indeed, the studio is prepping "Hitman 2," with Kyle Ward set to write the script. Ward's credits include the upcoming “Kane & Lynch,” also based on a video game.

Variety reports the follow-up will borrow story elements from the upcoming "Hitman 5" game, due in stores next year. The story line of the film will follow Agent 47 as he tries to reclaim his title of feared assassin.

Timothy Olyphant ("The Crazies") starred as the lead character in the first film. No word on whether he is considering to reprise the role.

Here's the first official trailer for Rogue's upcoming thriller "A Perfect Getaway," which arrives in theaters Aug. 14, 2009. In the flick, a happy couple travels to a remote island only to discover something terrible happened there some time ago. When they run into other couples and find it impossible to trust each other, things begin to go terribly wrong.

Chris Hemsworth, Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich, Timothy Olyphant, Kiele Sanchez, Marley Shelton and Wendy Braun. The film is directed by David Twohy, whose credits also include "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick." I can't say I love the trailer, because this just looks like something we have seen too many times already...
