Franck Tabouring Welcome to the very first edition of The Screening Log’s “Great Movie Moments” series, a selection of specific scenes that caught my attention and left a long-lasting impression on me. Most of the scenes you will see here are taken from flicks already released on DVD, but you may occasionally stumble across one from a current theatrical release.
For this first edition, I picked M. Night Shyamalan’s 2004 mystery “The Village.” Although it’s certainly not one of my favorite films, there’s one scene in the movie that really gave me the chills, not because it’s scary, but rather because of how beautifully it is set up, shot and edited.
In this scene, Joaqun Phoenix prevents Bryce Dallas Howard from being attacked by one of these creatures the villagers are so afraid of. The camera angles in this scene really work for me, and Hilary Hahn’s musical piece goes wonderfully with the footage. You may not find this scene exciting at all, but I have to admit it gave me goose pimples. Enjoy.
