'This Is It' also dominates overseas box office

This is It rules box office worldwide

Sony's Michael Jackson documentary "This Is It" is leading the worldwide box office, and I'm not surprised. The film delivered a strong debut overseas, scoring $68.5 million in 108 markets since its release Wednesday. That brings its worldwide total to $101 million.

Still going strong internationally was Pixar's animated adventure "Up," which dropped one spot and landed at No. 2 with a weekend gross of $12.8 million. The film's total gross currently stands at $352.7 million.

Meanwhile, Disney productions "Surrogates" and "G-Force" tied for third place with $6.1 million each. "Force" brought its international total to $148 million, while "Surrogates" with Bruce Willis reached a cumulative gross of $60.3 million.

'Up' still a big hit at international box office

Pixar's animated adventure "Up" continued its overseas box office reign this weekend, scoring another $20.2 million from ticket sales in 26 markets for an international total gross of $324.9 million.

Disney also took the No. 2 spot, as "G-Force" picked up $8.3 million for a cume of $138.5 million. Following in third place with $7.9 million was "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" ($44.3 million total).

At No. 4, French adventure "Lucky Luke" opened with $5.9 million in just one market. Coming in close behind in fifth place was "The Ugly Truth," which bagged $5.4 million for a cume of $101.8 million.

Pixar's 'Up' tops overseas box office yet again

Pixar's animated adventure "Up" continued its overseas dominance as the film picked up $27.9 million in 24 territories to top the international box office for yet another weekend. The film's total gross currently stands at $295.8 million.

Disney's 3D family film "G-Force" came in second with earnings of $12.5 million, bringing its overseas total to $127.9 million. Following in third place again was "The Ugly Truth," which brought in $8.8 million for a cume of $94.1 million.

At No. 4, Universal's comedy "Couples Retreat" generated $6.8 million from ticket sales in five markets, bringing its early international total to $10.8 million. The film starring Vince Vaughn follows four couples forced to participate in therapy sessions at a tropical island resort.

'Up' reclaims No. 1 spot at overseas box office

Pixar's spectacular animated adventure "Up" flew back to the top of the international box office this weekend with a solid $21 million in ticket sales after a strong U.K. debut ($9.7 million). The film's overseas total currently stands at $257.1 million.

At a distant No. 2, Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" took home another $8.5 million, lifting its cumulative gross to $154.7 million. Following in third place with $7.9 million was last week's winner "The Ugly Truth," which brought its total to $80.5 million.

'The Ugly Truth' wins overseas box office race

The Ugly Truth

Sony's romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth" worked its way to the top of the overseas box office this weekend with an estimated $12.1 million in ticket sales after expanding to 54 territories.

Starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler as two TV personalities struggling to get along, the film has reached an international total gross of $70.8 million.

At No. 2, Jonathan Mostow's sci-fi action flick "Surrogates" took home $11.4 million, reaching a cumulative gross of $28.4 million. Willis plays a cop in a world where humans use surrogates to perform everyday tasks.

'Up' still dominates international box office

Disney registered another solid weekend at the internatinonal box office as "Up" held on to the top spot with earnings of $12.3 million from ticket sales in 25 markets. The animated adventure by Pixar currently boasts a total gross of $215 million.

Disney also released "Surrogates," which landed at No. 2 with a gross of $12.2 million. In the Jonathan Mostow-directed sci-fi film, Bruce Willis plays a cop investigating a murder in a world in which humans use surrogates to complete everyday tasks.

Pixar's 'Up' lands at top of overseas box office

Pixar's superb animated adventure "Up" flew to the top of the international box office this weekend with $13.7 million in ticket sales. The film, which is currently playing in 23 markets, lifted its total gross to $196.7 million.

At No. 2, Quentin Tarantino's excellent WWII drama "Inglourious Basterds" picked up $11.2 million, bringing its overseas cume to $115.7 million. Following in third place with $9.4 million was "The Ugly Truth," which brought its cumulative gross to $44.9 million.

Recent box office champion "The Final Destination" dropped to No. 4 this weekend, pulling another $9.2 million from ticket sales in 35 markets. The horror flick's total haul currently stands at $70.4 million.

'Inglourious Basterds' keeps overseas b.o. crown

Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" prevailed at the international box office this weekend with an estimated $14.3 million in ticket sales in 35 markets. The film's overseas total gross currently stands at a solid $83.3 million.

Following closely in second place this weekend was "The Final Destination," which also retained the No. 1 spot in North America. The David R. Ellis-directed horror sequel brought in $14 million, lifting its international cume to $31.1 million.

'Inglourious Basterds' stays on top overseas

Those "Inglourious Basterds" are doing pretty well for themselves, as Quentin Tarantino's WWII drama topped the international box office again this weekend with an estimated $19.4 million in ticket sales. That brings the film's overseas total to $59.1 million. Congrats, Mr. Aldo Raine.

Following the basterds at No. 2 was Fox's animated flick "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," which bagged another $15 million for a stunning total gross of $635.2 million. To be honest, I never expected this stinker to perform this well internationally.

Box Office: 'Funny People' takes top spot with $23M

Weekend of July 31 – August 2, 2009: “Funny People” opens strong, “Potter” close behind

Judd Apatow’s latest comedy “Funny People” jumped to the top of the North American box office this weekend with $23.4 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The R-rated film, which received mixed reviews, scored an average of $7,793 per theater at 3,008 locations. Starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann, “People” follows the adventures of a stand-up comedian who's having a near-death experience.

“Aliens in the Attic,” this weekend’s second wide release, only made it to No. 5 with a three-day gross of $7.8 million, despite a run at 3,106 locations. The film follows a family’s battle against alien intruders in their vacation home.
