Ten Worst Films of 2008

As 2008 comes to a close, it's time for me to pick the flicks I hated most this year. It was pretty tough this year to pick these 10 primarily because I've seen so many films that sucked, but here's the final list:

10. College
Deb Hagan's "College" may not be the most disastrous film of 2008, but it sure stinks big time. This tale of three idiotic high school friends trying to hook up with girls during their first college visit is neither funny nor original, offering viewers nothing but scatological jokes, naked breasts and embarrassingly terrible dialogue. This one's a massive bore! Read more about it here.

Box Office: 'High School Musical 3' prevails

By Franck Tabouring
Weekend of October 31 – November 2, 2008

Walt Disney’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” clung to the No. 1 spot at the North American box office this weekend with $15 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Kenny Ortega’s third installment in the popular series dropped a few spots on Friday but regained momentum Saturday and Sunday to remain at the top of the chart, lifting its domestic total to $61.7 million after two weeks in theaters.

Debuting in second place with $10.6 million was Kevin Smith’s “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.” The comedy starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks focuses on two life-long friends who decide to make a porno in order to get rid of their increasing debt.

Following closely at No. 3 was David Hackl’s “Saw V,” which took home $10.1 million and brought its total gross to $45.8 million. The fifth installment in the “Saw” series is currently $17.4 million away from beating its predecessor, “Saw IV.”

‘Saw V’ wins Friday box office race

David Hackl’s “Saw V” easily outperformed Disney’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” at the North American box office this Friday with $3.1 million in ticket sales.

The fifth installment in the popular "Saw" series dominated all new releases on Halloween, lifting its cumulative gross to $38.8 million after only one week in release.

Following at No. 2 was Clint Eastwood’s acclaimed drama “Changeling,” which took home $2.3 million. The film starring Angelina Jolie opened in limited release last week and expanded into 1,850 sites this weekend.

Debuting in third place with $2.2 million was Kevin Smith’s comedy “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.” In the R-rated film, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks decide to make a porno in order to get rid of their growing debt.

Surprisingly, Freestyle Releasing’s horror flick “The Haunting of Molly Hartley” finished fourth with $1.7 million. Following closely at No. 5 was “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” earning $1.7 million and bringing its domestic total to $22.1 million.

'The Haunting of Molly Hartley' web reviews

If you're planning to see one of the worst horror flicks of the year, check out Mickey Liddell's "The Haunting of Molly Hartley," a terrible, terrible movie. Starring Haley Bennett, the flick follows a girl who hears voices and see things ever since her mom tried to kill her. Here's what the Web's critics have to say about the film:

• Mack Rawden at Cinema Blend: "It’s ill-conceived, laughably and unintentionally ridiculous, and doesn’t even seem to be putting forth any effort for long, expansive stretches."

Cinematical's Eric D. Snider: "I think some good ideas might be lurking underneath all the blandness."

Review: “The Haunting of Molly Hartley”

Seen on: October 31, 2008

The players: Director: Mickey Liddell, Writers: Rebecca Sonnenshine, John Travis, Cast: Haley Bennett, Jake Weber, Chace Crawford, Shanna Collins, Shannon Marie Woodward

Facts of interest: None whatsoever.

The plot: Ever since her mother tried to kill her, Molly Hartley has been hearing voices and seeing weird things. Now she's about to discover a devilish secret her parents have kept from her for years.

Our thoughts: Mickey Liddell’s directorial debut “The Haunting of Molly Hartley” is an ugly mess. And honestly, that’s pretty much all there is to say about it. For the sake of offering you more than two sentences though, let me further explain why this amateurish horror thriller is a massive failure.

This week in theaters: Zack, Miri and Molly

Here are the wide releases for Friday, Oct. 31, 2008: "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and "The Haunting of Molly Hartley."

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO

Who's in it? Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Jason Mewes, Katie Morgan, Craig Robinson, Justin Long

What is it about? Two lifelong friends decide to make a porno in order to wipe out their debt.

Excited? Very much so. Although early reviews are mixed, I'm quite excited to see Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks team up to make their porno version of "Star Wars." Could be very funny indeed.
