First 'Captain America' set photos have arrived

The first photos from the set of Joe Johnston's "Captain America: The First Avenger" have landed online via The Daily Mail, and you can admire some of the shots above and right after the jump. Go Captain!

Okay, the guy you see on the bike is actually not Chris Evans, who plays lead Steve Rogers. It's just his stunt double, according to the Mail. Either way, this shows you what the costume looks like in the film.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" will arrive in theaters July 11, 2011. Oh and by the way, these shots were taken on location outside London. The Captain seems to clash with some evil bikers in this scene.

Joe Johnston talks 'Captain America' casting

Now that Chris Evans is officially on board for the lead role in Joe Johnston's upcoming superhero movie "The First Avenger: Captain America," it's time to find about about the whole casting thing, and the folks at earthsmightiest.com managed to get Johnston to answer a couple of questions on the subject. Get ready for a small surprise, folks.

On Evan's audition, Johnston said, "Chris didn't audition at all. I was already familiar with everything he'd done and was championing his cause, not that I had a fight from the Marvel team. They were fans of his as well. He came in to the art department to say hi, saw all the jaw-dropping art and designs on the wall and reacted the way I'd hoped he would."

That's it! Chris Evans is 'Captain America'

Chris Evans has accepted the lead role in Joe Johnston's upcoming superhero movie "The First Avenger: Captain America." Heat Vision exclusively reports sources close to the project confirmed the deal, even though Marvel would not confirm anything officially. I bet we'll hear from them in the coming days.

Evans will play Steve Rogers, who turns into Captain America. We've heard a lot of things about possible candidates for the role recently, but the search is now finally over. This won't be Evans' first gig playing a superhero. He previously starred as Johnny Storm in the "Fantastic Four" flicks.

Final 'Captain America' contenders!

The race for the role of "The First Avenger: Captain America" is hearting up, and as Heat Vision reports, about seven actors are left in the competition. And now the big shock: John Krasinski is one of them fighting for the lead in the upcoming superhero flick.

Wait, what? That's right. Krasinski is apparently on the list, and so are Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter and Mike Vogel. Word is even Chace Crawford may show up at the screen tests, which are underway this week at Marvel. Joe Johnston will direct the film.

Even though these people are doing tests this week, Marvel may end up deciding to go look somewhere else. Still, the idea of seeing someone like Krasinski in the main role seems strange, even though I love him as an actor. I would never doubt his skills.

Johnston also recently gave a "Captain America" update, which you can check out here. The question remains: who would you like to see slip into the role of the Captain?

Joe Johnston gives 'Captain America' update!

Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman" is scheduled to hit theaters in two weeks, but the director is already working on his next big project: "The First Avenger: Captain America," which is due in theaters in 2011.

Johnston recently talked to the Film Journal, and he even offered a short update on how things are moving along on "America." "We're in prep," he said. "Rick Heinrichs is production-designing..."

"We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do this?'," he said. He likes this phase because money doesn't matter.

As far as the film's beginning is concerned, he said it will start "in 1942, 1943." "The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we're sort of avoiding. We're going back to the ’40s, and then forward..."

'First Avenger: Captain America' is coming soon!

Joe Johnston's "The First Avenger: Captain America" may hit the production stage very soon. The film is currently slated for a release 2011, and according to the director, filming could start this summer.

That's right. Even though we haven't heard that much about the flick in a while, Johnston is ready to shoot this thing starting June. That's according to the folks at Fangoria, who recently interviewed him.

Johnston's new film "The Wolfman" is opening Feb. 12, 2010. He spoke to Fangoria from the art department of "The First Avenger: Captain America," a clear indication he's in full pre-production mode.

'Avengers' pushed back; 'Spidey 4' gets date

Marvel Studios has set and moved around several release dates for some of its upcoming superhero films.

First and foremost, "The Avengers" is now scheduled to open May 4, 2012. The film's original release date was July 15, 2011.

Marvel has also set the release for "Spider-Man 4" to May 6, 2011. "Thor" will open June 17 the same year, pushed away from its original 2010 release.

Finally, "The First Avenger: Captain America" will arrive in theaters July 22, 2011. As for "Iron Man 2," it's still set to open May 7, 2010.

Even though some 2011 spots have not been filled by other studios, it sure looks like Marvel will dominate the summer of 2011.

I'm willing to wait for "The Avengers" a little longer. To be honest, the one I'm looking forward most among these flick is "Iron Man 2," and luckily, it'll be the first to open.

Is this the plot of ‘Captain America’?

Production Weekly has announced what seems to be a sort of plot summary of Marvel’s upcoming superhero flick “The First Avenger: Captain American.”

Please beware this is not necessarily a done deal, but here’s what Joblo posted earlier:

"Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected.
