Terrence Howard to play Nelson Mandela

Morgan Freeman did such a great job as Nelson Mandela in "Invictus," and now Terrence Howard will give it a shot too, even though he's not the main focus. Howard will play Mandela in in Darrell J. Roodt's upcoming film "Winnie," a drama focusing on Nelson Mandela's former wife Winnie Mandela.

Jennifer Hudson plays Winnie in the film based on Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob's biography “Winnie Mandela: A Life." Andre Pieterse, Roodt and Paul L. Johnson penned the script. Howard has "Red Tails" coming soon. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)

Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson have joined Terrence Howard and Charlie Hunnam in Matthew Chapman's directorial debut "The Ledge," an independent suspense thriller that is currently shooting in Louisiana, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Movie Review: “Fighting”

Seen on: April 24, 2009

The players: Director: Dito Montiel, Writers: Dito Montiel, Robert Munic, Cast: Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Zulay Henao, Michael Rivera, Luis Guzman

Facts of interest: Montiel also helmed "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints."

The plot: Channing Tatum plays a poor chap who gets a shot at a bunch of money by diving into the world of underground street fighting.

Our thoughts: In Dito Montiel’s latest directorial effort “Fighting,” Channing Tatum plays Shawn MacArthur, a poor small-town guy who’s now living in New York City but clearly has a hard time getting by. In other words, he spends his days selling fake crap on the sidewalk…

Terrence Howard boards 'Red Tails'

And another WWII flick is heading our way. It's titled "Red Tails," and it will star Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Tristan Wilds, Method Man, Lee Tergesen, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, Andre Royo and Jesse Williams.

According to Variety, the plot follows a group of pilots who took a stand against racism in the military and became the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American fighter pilots in the U.S. military. John Ridley, screenwriter of "U Turn" and "Undercover Brother," wrote the script.

Anthony Hemingway, whose credits include episodes for "ER," "CSI: NY" and "The Wire," is set to direct the project, which George Lucas will executive produce. Lucasfilm will also back the film financially.

Terrence Howard, who starred in "Iron Man" but won't return for the sequel, can next be seen alongside Channing Tatum in "Fighting."

Trailer radar: 'Fighting'

Dito Montiel, director of "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," returns with "Fighting," an action drama starring Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard.

In the film, Tatum stars as Shawn, a poor dude selling counterfeit stuff on the streets of New York. But when he meets scam artist Harvey, his life takes a drastic turn.

Offered a ton of money for competing in dangerous streetfights, Shawn quickly rises to fame in this corrupt underworld, a place that will push him to his limits and show him that the life he's been looking for isn't all that glamorous.

Looking at this first trailer for the film, I don't know exactly what to think about this. Will it work as a decent drama, or is it just another brainless fight flick like "Never Back Down."?

We'll see when the film opens April 24, 2009. And by the way, this title sucks, right?

Samuel L. Jackson to appear in ‘Iron Man 2’

Terrence Howard won’t return for the sequel to Jon Favreau’s action hit “Iron Man,” but guess who will: Samuel L. Jackson.

The folks over at LatinoReview say Jackson confirmed his appearance in “Iron Man 2” at a press junket for his upcoming comedy “Soul Men.”

Jackson said he recently spoke with Favreau and agreed to show up in the anticipated sequel. He didn’t comment on what role he would be playing and how big it would be.

Well, considering Jackson popped up as Nick Fury at the end of the first film’s credits, it would be silly not have him reprise this role. I guess that’s awesome news for Fury fans, right?

In related “Iron Man 2” news, Terrence Howard officially commented on him not returning as Jim Rhodes.

Here’s what Howard said on NPR: “It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. I read something in the trades that implicated it was about money or something but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on.”

Your thoughts in Jackson’s return in “Iron Man 2”? Sound off below!
