Simon West to direct 'The Expendables 2'

A sequel to Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" is happening for sure, but Sly is taking a step back from directing this time. His replacement for the action follow-up: Simon West, whose credits include "Con Air" and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider."

Deadline says the film will kick off production this summer, and the original cast is expected to return. Sly's ridiculous film bagged $103 million domestically. West also helmed "The General's Daughter" and "The Mechanic." Who's excited?

Full trailer for 'Zookeeper' kinda disappoints

Kevin James stars in Zookeeper

Kevin James has a new comedy coming soon, and this time, he's playing a zookeeper trying to hook up with the girl of his dreams. The problem is he has no clue how to get the job done, and that's where the talking animals come in. It looks as ridiculous as it sounds. See for yourself in the new trailer after the jump.

In fact, "Zookeeper" looks like many other lame comedies James starred in recently. I respect James as a solid comedian who made TV a lot better when he was on the air, but his big-screen gigs certainly haven't given him the ability to show audiences what he can do. Being clumsy doesn't really cut it.

Lame first trailer for 'Zookeeper' with Kevin James

Last week we got a first look at the rather boring poster for "The Zookeeper" with Kevin James, and today, we get a glimpse at what this thing is all about. First reaction: it ain't too pretty. See trailer above.

Alas, this looks just like another moronic family flick starring James as a clumsy dude trying to be funny. This time, he plays a zookeeper who gets dating advice from talking animals. Yep, talking animals.

"The Zookeeper," helmed by Frank Coraci, features the voices of Adam Sandler, Cher, Judd Apatow, Jon Favreau, Sylvester Stallone. The film debuts in theaters July 8, 2011. I'm glad that day is still far away.

Bruce Willis as bad guy in 'Expendables 2'?

Maybe it's a tad too early to talk sequel, but it seems Sylvester Stallone is very eager to get started on a follow-up to his hit action flick "The Expendables," which has been performing really well.

Sly mentioned the sequel twice on his Twitter today, posting the following: "Had dinner with Bruce Willis last night. I want him in EXPENDABLES II as a super villain. What do you think?" Seriously?

Okay, maybe it's not that far-fetched at all, considering Willis popped up in the first one and pretty much everything in that film is so over the top, it doesn't matter what crazy ideas Sly comes up with.

In regard to his second post, Sly's currently trying to find a very dangerous place to set the sequel. I wonder how long it will take him to bang out a script. Looks like "The Expendables II" is on the way.

Sly's 'Expendables' beats Julia Roberts at box office

Jet Li in The Expendables

We kind of knew this would happen after seeing rough estimates last night, but Sylvester Stallone's action-packed "The Expendables" defeated Julia Roberts at the North American box office Friday.

"Expendables" bagged about $13.2 million in ticket sales, according to estimates reported by Deadline. That's certainly not a bad result for Stallone's silly movie that features a big cast blowing up stuff.

At No. 2, Ryan Murphy's "Eat Pray Love" started a tad slower, earning about $8.5 million Friday. It's playing at a little less theaters than Sly's flick (3,082 compared to 3,270), but it will still perform well.

Looks like 'Expendables' wins Friday box office

The very first box office estimates are in, and it looks like Sylvester Stallone's new action flick "The Expendables" took the lead with around $13 million from 3,270 sites. That's quite a strong debut.

Julia Roberts' new flick "Eat Pray Love" finished second with $9.8 million, which could result in a $28 million weekend. Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" had a slower start with $5.2 million at No. 4.

Meanwhile, "The Other Guys" performed well enough with $5.5 million in third place. "Inception" took $3.4 million, enough for No. 5. Check back for the full estimates and details tomorrow. (Source: Deadline)

Movie Review: "The Expendables"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: August 9, 2010

The players: Director: Sylvester Stallone, Writers: Sylvester Stallone, Dave Callaham, Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Eric Roberts

Facts of interest: Budget reported at $70 million.

The plot: A group of mercenaries head to an island to overthrow a dictator.

Our thoughts: Sylvester Stallone is back in action, and that means we’re in for a solid dose of brainless big-screen action. While “The Expendables” is certainly not the brilliant summer movie I wanted it to be, I admit it still packs enough punch to stay away from boredom and offer cinemagoers a stupid, yet action-packed show filled with gun battles and ridiculously massive explosions.

No more 'Rambo' for Sylvester Stallone!

Last year, we heard quite a lot about Sylvester Stallone's "Rambo V." Heck, at one point, it was titled "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt," and the story was supposed to be about Rambo hunting down a nasty beast. But no! According to Stallone himself, "Rambo" won't be making a return to the big screen.

Empire recently chatted with the filmmaker about his upcoming action flick "The Expendables," and Stallone said he is convinced he is done with "Rambo" for good. Of course, no one can be sure that's all true, but he said, “I think Rambo’s pretty well done. I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99% sure."

'The Expendables' gets loud, explosive trailer

Sylvester Stallone will soon be back in action in his latest action spectacle "The Expendables," and a brand-new, explosive trailer has recently popped up on the Web. You can check it out below if you're into this kind of thing. Much like the last "Rambo," this looks like a crazy action-packed flick stuffed with massive shoot-outs, gigantic explosions and all sorts of big fights and brawls. Can it get any more brainless than this? I think not.

"The Expendables" follows a group of tough mercenaries who infiltrate a South American country to overthrow its dictator and free its population. Sly himself, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts and Stone Cold Steve Austin co-star. This trailer, which I admit is entertaining, also gives you a good look at the cameos of Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film opens Aug. 13, 2010.
