Oh no! Ridley Scott makes a YouTube movie?

We won't be seeing a fiction piece about how YouTube came to being anytime soon, but Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald are teaming up to create a YouTube documentary about people posting videos.

The movie, titled "Life in a Day," will include clips and videos people load to YouTube July 24, 2010. This could obviously be a cool project and all, but it depends on what footage makes it into the flick.

To tell you the truth though, I have some faith in Macdonald. I just hope he won't fall for most of the YouTube crap and pick those monotonous clips of cats sitting on toilets and kids biting each other.

Netflix This: 'Bass Ackwards'

You have to admit: the whole Netflix thing is pretty awesome, and because it is, I figured it deserves a new little feature I call "Netflix This." Essentially, it's a suggestion for a flick or TV show you should definitely check out on Netflix if you have the time. We all know there are some great selections on there.

So, my first Netflix pick is a charming indie flick titled "Bass Ackwards." You may have heard some stuff about it earlier this year when Sundance was in the news. It's a comedy-drama written and directed by Linas Phillips, who also portrays the main character, and it's undoubtedly a great low-budget movie.

Lionsgate picks up 'Buried' at Sundance

Ryan Reynolds in Lionsgate's Buried

Lionsgate has picked up the North American distribution rights for "Buried," Rodrigo Cortés' thriller that premiered at Sundance and draw quite a large amount of interest among audiences and buyers.

The Hollywood Reporter says Lionsgate had to fight Screen Gems and Fox Searchlight to acquire the rights to the film, which stars Ryan Reynolds as a man who's kidnapped and wakes up locked in a coffin.

Folks with claustrophobia will not see this movie, but Lionsgate decided it's worth spending more than $3 million on. "Buried" marks the first big sale at the Sundance Film Festival, which is currently running.

Sundance announces '09 lineup

The Sundance Institute today announced the official lineup for the 25th edition of the Sundance Film Festival, which will run Jan. 15 - 25, 2009.

According to a press release published on the official Sundance Web site, 118 films will be screened during the festival, including 87 world premieres, 19 North American premieres, and 4 U.S. premieres representing a total of 21 countries.

I've posted all the selected films for the four main competition categories right after the jump, but here are some films you may want to look out for this Janaury:

"Paper Heart," the secret Michael Cera project festival programmers are apparently going all crazy about; "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men," John Krasinski's directorial debut with Timothy Hutton and Bobby Cannavale; and "Five Minutes of Heaven" by Oliver Hirschbiegel.

There's a whole lot more below. For more info on the festival visit the official Sundance Web site.
