'Jurassic Park 4' - Yes or No?

Man, that's a good question. We've been hearing a lot about "Jurassic Park 4" during the past years, and yet, the film never really came together. Will it anytime soon? Nobody really knows.

Late last year, producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy said they were not too optimistic a fourth film would happen. Yet, they didn't say the project was completely buried.

Joe Johnston, director of "Jurassic Park III," recently talked to Ain't It Cool News about the film, and he said he is pretty much ready to bring the dinosaurs back to life.

Daily news dose: 'Battleship' gets release date; Harrison Ford says 'Indy 5' story in the progress

Here is a collection of short but important movie news out of Hollywood and from the Web:

• Universal plans to release Peter Berg's "Battleship" July 1, 2011. The film is a live-action version of the popular Hasbro board game. Berg told Variety the film is "a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle."

• Harrison Ford apparently can't wait to return to the world of Indiana Jones. Speaking with France's Le Figaro, he said the story for a fifth "Indiana Jones" flick is already taking shape. George Lucas is busy working on the story, he said. I think they should just leave Indy alone for good. Enough is enough.

Spielberg to develop Crichton's 'Pirate Latitudes'

Exciting news today, as Steven Spielberg will develop the big-screen adaptation of "Pirate Latitudes," the last novel Michael Crichton completed shortly before his death. DreamWorks has acquired the rights to the book, and Spielberg may end up directing the project. I really hope he does.

The Hollywood Reporter says David Koepp, who worked with Spielberg on the adaptation of Crichton's "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," will write the adaptation. Koepp told the trade Crichton was one of the "most innovative writers of our era."

Steven Spielberg set to direct 'Harvey'

There's been a lot of talks recently about what project Steven Spielberg would direct next, but now we've got an answer to that question: "Harvey" for 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks.

The film will be an adaptation of Mary Chase's 1944 play, which centered on the adventures of an eccentric man and his unusual friendship with an invisible rabbit.

Jonathan Tropper wrote the screenplay, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Pre-prod. is apparently starting right now, with filming kicking off early next year.

This is not the first time "Harvey" found its way to the big screen, as Henry Koster directed an adaptation starring James Stewart and Josephine Hull in 1950 (see picture above).

Steven Spielberg thinks 'Transformers 2' rules

Steven Spielberg loves Transformers: Revenge of the FallenOf course he does. Steven Spielberg serves as executive producer on Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," and at this stage, I'm sure he wouldn't just walk up to Bay and tell him his movie is crap. But hey, maybe he really loves it. Anyway, Bay is excited Spielberg enjoyed his recent cut, and here's what he posted on his Web site:

"Steven Spielberg sat next to me in a big 100 person theater at Sony today. There were 98 empty seats. The lights came up after we just watched my cut of Revenge of the Fallen. He turned to me and said
'It's awesome'. He felt this movie was better then the first - and probably my best, who knows - at this point in a movie you start to lose your objectivity.

"We have 60 days left. Let me tell you it will be a race to finish. It's 12 at night and we are still working here in the edit room. Everyone at ILM and DD are killing themselves right now, they are doing a stellar job on the effects. We also just finished our trailer which is coming out with Wolverine."

That's the latest "Transformers 2" update, and I'm pretty excited about seeing that new trailer. "Revenge of the Fallen" opens June 24, 2009.

Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig board 'Tintin' adaptation

Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced Jamie Bell will play Tintin in Steven Spielberg's upcoming 3D motion capture film "The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn," which has officially started production.

Also joining the cast is Daniel Craig, who will portray Red Rackham. Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook are already on board.

Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish wrote the script for this first film, which Spielberg is directing and Peter Jackson is co-producing. Jackson is set to direct the second flick in the upcoming series.

Bell's credits include "Billy Elliot," "King Kong" and "Jumper." He is currently onscreen alongside Craig in "Defiance." The guy's got talent, and I'm sure he'll do just fine portraying the famous young reporter created by Herge.

If you have no clue who popular Tintin really is, here is some extra info from the official press release:

"The Adventures of Tintin - a series of 24 books, the final unfinished adventure was published after Herge's death - became Herge's life's work. The first adventure was published in 1929. Over 200 million copies have been sold worldwide. The popular series has been translated into 70 languages and still attracts thousands of new fans each year."

Yep, I always adored "Tintin," and I'm certainly looking forward to this flick, which is currently scheduled to open in 2011.

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost to star in 'Tintin'

We haven't heard that much about Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's ambitious "Tintin" project in a while, but the movie is certainly not dead. On the contrary, it's actually set to head into production in the coming months.

Now, according to the folks at Ain't It Cool News, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are on board to star as Thomson and Thompson. This info comes from one of their sources, so it has not been announced officially quite yet.

Okay, as you know these two characters totally look alike and Pegg and Frost share no physical similarities at all, but I think they'll somehow be able to make it work because the animated film will be shot in 3D using motion-capture technology.

Andy Serkis is also on board as Captain Haddock. Thomas Sangster was attached to star as Tintin, but he recently dropped out because of scheduling conflicts.

That's all I got for you for now. "Tintin" will be produced on a budget of $130 million via Sony and Paramount. Spielberg is helming the first film, while Jackson will direct the second one.

Good to now this is moving ahead. "Tintin" always was a huge part of my childhood, and I can't wait to see that delightful character stroll across the big screen.
