'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' web reviews

His name is Blart, Paul Blart, and he's struggling to protect his mall. In Steve Carr's latest comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," Kevin James plays a good-hearted security guard who declares war on a bunch of crooks taking over his mall. Here is what the Web's critics say about the movie:

CinemaBlend's Katey Rich: "Tasteless and slow and tonally uneven and all the other bad adjectives there are, 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' is way too few ideas short of an actual feature, a couple of Segway jokes stretched to an hour and a half running time."

• Nick Schager at Cinematical: "Harmlessly humorless, Paul Blart tepidly goes through its motions, but that doesn't mean you have to."

• Kevin Carr at FilmSchoolRejects: "This movie is stupid, and not always in a bad way. It’s a typical January release, as it’s not going to win any awards and would have been crushed in the holiday box office."

RopeOfSilicon's Brad Brevet: "This film washed right over me. I didn't laugh and I didn't cringe. I sat and stared at a movie screen knowing it had to end and once it did I would get up and leave."

Review: “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”

Seen on: January 16, 2009

The players: Director: Steve Carr, Writers: Nick Bakay, Kevin James, Cast: Kevin James, Keir O'Donnell, Raini Rodriguez, Adhir Kalyan, Jayma Mays

Facts of interest: Steve Carr also directed "Daddy Day Care."

The plot: A devoted mall security guard (James) tries to stop a bunch of criminals from robbing his mall.

Our thoughts: Sure, safety never takes a holiday, but I truly wish films like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” would. Kevin James’ latest big-screen effort may not be as terrible as I originally expected, but the movie’s lame story line and lack of decent humor still made it really hard for me to enjoy myself.

Moviefone today premiered the first trailer for Steve Carr's upcoming comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," which stars Kevin James as a mall cop struggling to protect the mall from a bunch of ruthless criminals. While the original idea behind the film sounds really funny, this trailer is not. I actually didn't smile once.

"Paul Blart: Mapp Cop" opens Jan. 16, 2009. Enjoy the trailer above.
