Box Office: 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' rules

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Weekend of September 18 – 20, 2009: ‘Cloudy’ delivers while ‘Jennifer’s Body’ disappoints

Sony Pictures Animation’s “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” stormed the North American box office this weekend with a solid $30.1 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Playing in both 3D and standard format, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s animated adventure scored an average of $9,651 per theater at 3,119 locations. The film follows an inventor who faces the consequences of his latest invention: a device that converts water into food.

Debuting in second place with a decent three-day gross of $10.5 million was Steven Soderbergh’s “The Informant!,” which stars Matt Damon as an exec helping the FBI uncover his company’s price-fixing scheme. The film is showing at 2,505 locations.

'I Can Do Bad All By Myself' tops Friday box office

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

As expected, Tyler Perry's latest drama "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" jumped to the top of the North American box office Friday with an esimated $8.6 million in ticket sales from 2,255 locations.

The film failed to reach the $14 million opening-day gross of Perry's last film "Madea Goes to Jail," but for a Friday opening leading into what is certainly a quiet weekend at the box office, "Bad All By Myself" did pretty well.

Movie Review: “Sorority Row”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: September 12, 2009

The players: Director: Stewart Hendler, Writers: Josh Stolberg, Pete Goldfinger, Cast: Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Carrie Fisher

Facts of interest: Remake of "The House on Sorority Row."

The plot: When a stupid prank goes horribly wrong, a bunch of sorority sisters are hunted by a ruthless killer.

Our quick thoughts: To be honest with you, Stewart Hendler’s “Sorority Row” works much better as a comedy than a slasher film. I mean, some of the things these crazy chicks are saying and the ways they are behaving throughout the movie are just way more entertaining and hilarious than all the mindless bloodshed. Everything else, by the way, is utterly crappy.

Three clips and opening scene from 'Sorority Row'

Sorority Row

Stewart Hendler's horror thriller "Sorority Row" is set to open in theaters Sept. 11, 2009, and three clips as well as the film's opening scene have hit the Web. You can check them out below, but be careful, the clips at least contain a bit of bloody spoilers.

Well, let's just say they focus on some killings, and if you prefer to wait until the movie to see how two characters are finished off, then I adivse you to only watch the opening scene after the jump. I don't really care and watched all of them, and one of these killings is actually pretty sick.

'Sorority Row' trailer looks unoriginal

The first trailer for Stewart Hendler's upcoming horror flick "Sorority Row" has popped up online, and dang, this thing looks just like "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

The story sounds familiar indeed: a bunch of sorority sisters go for a stupid prank that goes horribly wrong and results in the murder of one of their friends.

A year later, a mysterious serial killer shows up and starts to pursue everyone involved in the prank. Has the murdered sis come back from the dead? Or is someone else behind all this killing? Who cares???

Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Jamie Chung, Margo Harshman, Julian Morris and Audrina Patridge star. "Row" is set to open Oct. 2, 2009.

Don't know about you, but I can hardly get excited about this one.
