Will Angelina Jolie show up in 'Sin City 2'?

Angelina Jolie may join Sin City 2

At this stage, I'm not sure we'll even ever get to see Robert Rodriguez's "Sin City 2." I mean, I've been reading all kinds of things about the project over the past months, but I somehow have the feeling it's just not moving along. Or is it? Accoring to Moviehole, things are apparently starting to shape up, with Angelina Jolie attached to join the sequel.

Seriously? Well, right now, it's more like a rumor. One of Moviehole's sources said Jolie would play Ava, lead character in Frank Miller's "A Dame to Kill For" and former flame of Dwight McCarthy, the character Clive Owen played in the first "Sin City." Whatever happens, I wouldn't mind seeing Jolie in this sequel at all. The busy mom is currently filming "Salt" for Phillip Noyce.

So what about that 'Sin City 2'?

I've heard all kinds of things about "Sin City 2" over the past couple of months, but the one thing I would really like to know is: when will this movie actually happen?

Back in December, Frank Miller spilled a few details about the script being done and the movie potentially being ready to shoot by April. Well, April rolls around in less than a month, so that seems unlikely.

On the other hand, ComingSoon recently talked to Rosario Dawson, who played Gail in "Sin City" and will be back for the sequel. And according to her, "Sin City 2" seems to be moving forward... slowly.

"I just talked to Frank about it though and said he finished it a couple of months ago so I'm really excited to get it going," she said about the script. "Supposedly it's going to happen in 2009."

And here is what she told ComingSoon about her character in the sequel: "I get to wear a mask in this one. Is that specific enough?"

Okay, I guess that means we will see "Sin City 2" one day after all.

Will Mickey Rourke pass on 'Sin City 2'?

Just last Friday, I passed on the good news that "Sin City 2" may actually be moving forward, and that shooting for the sequel could begin as early as April (read about it here).

Today, however, I read something not so positive. According to ComingSoon, Mickey Rourke recently said he may not return as Marv in the follow-up to the 2005 surprise hit.

"No, I'm not interested in that right now. That's not a reality right now. It's pissing in the wind," he told ComingSoon. "That's three hours of make up and I'm claustrophobic, so I'm going to have to work something out."

If Rourke decided not to return, I would definitely miss him as Marv. He was indeed a powerful character, and Rourke was the perfect guy for that role.

Watch out for Rourke in Darren Aronofsky's acclaimed "The Wrestler." I hear and read he's delivering a fantastic performance in the role of Randy "The Ram" Robinson.

'Sin City 2' ready to start shooting soon?

So what about that "Sin City" sequel? I'm not a big fan of sequels in most cases, but considering how much I enjoyed Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's first film, I admit I would love to see a follow-up asap.

Problem is, we haven't heard much about the development of "Sin City 2" recently, and quite frankly, at one stage I thought the project was dead. But not so fast!

IGN UK recently talked to Miller, who expressed a certain enthusiasm toward the whole thing. "Sin City 2 is written," he said.

"It's mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I'm hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April."

April, huh? If they can pull THAT off, I'm sure they could have the whole thing ready to hit theaters by the end of the year. For now, let's get excited about this statement and wait for the official confirmation.
