Hell no! Foxx, Lawrence go 'Sheneneh'

I doubt this is a good idea: Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence will star as female characters in Screen Gems' upcoming comedy "Sheneneh and Wanda," which Foxx will write and co-produce.

The film stems from a movie trailer parody the two acrtors did for the BET Awards. They got some positive buzz out of it, and next thing you know, they're planning a big feature film.

No surprise: 'Underworld 4' in the works

Rhona Mitra in the third Underworld film

Even though I didn't fall in love with this year's “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans,” I didn't exactly hate it either. As someone who very much enjoyed the first "Underworld" but hated the sequel, I was satisfied by the third flick.

News of a fourth installment in the franchise doesn't surprise me though. Yep, the folks at ShockTillYouDrop report Screen Gems is indeed working on "Underworld 4," which a potential release planned for January 2011.

Of course, as pretty much every upcoming movie these days, it will also be released in 3D. That means Lycans and vampires will be jumping straight into your face this time.

No word yet on who will return for the sequel and who won't. My guess is we won't get to see Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman. Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra, perhaps?

Hostage drama gets big-screen treatment

Jessica Postigo is set to write “Operation Checkmate,” a drama about the recent Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia hostage drama, according to Variety.

The story focuses on how military rescuers deceived FARC to rescue 15 hostages, including ex-presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt (pictured).

Apparently, the filmmakers want to go all “24” towards the end of the film by having the 22 final minutes unfold in real time.

Simon Brand will direct Postigo’s script for the Screen Gems project.

Short takes: 'Half-Blood Prince' delayed!

Variety reports Warner Bros. has pushed back the release of David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" to July 17, 2009 (hey, that's my birthday). The sixth installment in the popular series was originally scheduled to hit Nov. 21, 2008. What a big disappointment.

• David Duchovny and Tea Leoni are set to produce CBS Films' "Born to Rock," a comedy pitch about a gang of aging rockers who suddenly find success as a children's band after a mix-up in their demo tape catches the attention of a producer. Jess Walter and Mark Steilen wrote up the project (The Hollywood Reporter).

• According to Variety, Lionsgate has acquired the rights to adapt Duane Swierczynski's novel "Severance Package," with Brett Simon expected to write the screenplay. The story revolves around media relations director whose life is in danger after he finds out his company is really a cover for a secret intelligence agency.

• Screen Gems obtained the rights to "Easy A," a script written by Bert V. Royal. Variety says the plot centers on a high-school student who seeks financial and personal gain by pretending to be the school slut.

First pics from ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’

Entertainment Weekly today posted three official screenshots from Patrick Tatopoulos’ upcoming “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans,” Screen Gems’ prequel to 2003’s horror hit “Underworld.”

This time, the main story line examines the origins of the ruthless feud between the Death Dealers and the Lycans. Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen and Shane Brolly all return to reprise their roles from the first film and its follow-up, “Underworld: Evolution.”

Rhona Mitra will be stepping in for Kate Beckinsale (who starred as the lead in the two previous flicks), but she will play a different character. “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” is scheduled to open everywhere Jan. 23, 2009. Click right here to see all the pics at Entertainment Weekly.

I really enjoyed the first film but pretty much hated the sequel, so I can’t say I’m overly excited about this third adventure. Mitra is certainly a decent choice for the role of the new central character, but I have to admit Beckinsale looked way hotter.
