Movie Review: “Saw VI”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: October 23, 2009

The players: Director: Kevin Greutert, Writers: Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton, Cast: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Shawnee Smith

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: When the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Our thoughts: Kevin Greutert’s “Saw VI” definitely fails to revitalize the popular big-screen horror series, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s not as bad an installment as its two most recent predecessors. One thing is for certain though: this sixth film is still bloody and gives cinemagoers a better insight into Jigsaw’s entire scheme.

Twisted Pictures to handle 'Texas' franchise

There is a slight chance we will be seeing a whole lot of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" films in the near future. The reason: Twisted Pictures is close to take over the franchise and start with a new "Texas" flick.

Twisted Pictures, of course, handles the "Saw" films with Lionsgate, and the production house is close to release the sixth installment already with "Saw VI," due in theaters Oct. 23, 2009.

Variety says Twisted will be developing a 3D "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" flick, with Stephen Susco ("The Grudge") on board to write the script. My guess is we'll be seeing a lot more if it succeeds financially.

'Saw V' web reviews

It's that time of the year again. The last "Saw" installment opens everywhere this weekend, and fans rush to theaters to catch a glimpse of the latest crazy torture methods. Anyway, here's what online film critics say about David Hackl's "Saw V," which is certainly not the final chapter of the franchise.

Cinematical's Peter Martin: "More than anything, Saw V feels like a watered-down, alternate version of the earlier films in the series."

• Ron Henriques at LatinoReview: "I've had it and this franchise is no longer about telling a good story, but taking my money which they have actually done with me since these films are not screened for critics and I paid for this one."

Review: “Saw V”

Seen on: October 24, 2008

The players: Director: David Hackl, Writers: Patrick Melton, Patrick Melton, Cast: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Scott Patterson, Julie Benz and Meagan Good

Facts of interest: This is the first "Saw" film directed by David Hackl. The previous ones were directed by James Wan and Darren Lynn Bousman.

The plot: Welcome to the fifth installment in the popular horror franchise. Jigsaw is dead, obviously, but he found a new assitant who continues his gruesome work.

Our thoughts: I’m not quite sure what the tagline for David Hackl’s “Saw V” really means: “You won’t believe how it ends.” How what ends? Maybe I’m missing something crucial here, but I couldn’t find anything ending in this fifth installment of the ultra-popular horror franchise. No, instead of ending, the whole thing starts all over again. Sadly enough, the fun is long gone…
