First photo of Sacha Baron Cohen in 'The Dictator'

After "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," Larry Charles and Sacha Baron Cohen are back in action together for "The Dictator," a comedy which is set to open May 11, 2012. First photo follows after the jump.

The folks at The Huff Post have scored this first publicity still of Cohen as the dictator. The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. Sound familiar?

Anna Faris and Ben Kingsley co-star in "The Dictator." Charles and Cohen created one heck of an awesome comedy with "Borat," so I'm not at all worried about this one. And let's be honest, doesn't Cohen already look pretty hilarious in this photo?

Kingsley, Cohen to board Scorsese's next

Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen may end up starring in Martin Scorsese's next project "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," according to Deadline New York's Mile Fleming. The film is based on the children's book by Brian Selznick and follows a 12-year-old living in the walls of a Paris train station.

Word is Kingsley will play filmmaker George Melies, with Cohen stepping into the role of a station inspector. Kingsley, of course, can now be seen in Scorsese's "Shutter Island." He has "Prince of Persia" coming soon. Cohen last starred in "Bruno." Looking forward to Martin helming a kid flick. How about you?

'Brüno' web reviews

Vassup! Sacha Baron Cohen returns to the big screen with "Brüno," about a gay Austrian fashionista who travels to Los Angeles to become the world's biggest star. Now, here's what some of the Web's critics have to say about the flick:

• Josh Tyler at CinemaBlend: "Though it’s missing all the relevance and subtly of 'Borat' some of the laughs are still there and so is much of the uncomfortable silence in which ordinary people are confronted with Cohen’s bizarre behavior."

Joblo's JimmyO: "So yeah, 'Bruno' is outrageous, sick and offensive but pretty damn hilarious."

• Landon Palmer at FilmSchoolRejects: "Will 'Bruno' make you laugh throughout? Probably. Will moments of it shock and appall you? Most likely."

• Brian Orndorf at brianorndorf.com: "'Bruno' contains plenty of belly laughs, audible gasps, and provides a sly refresher on obscene civilian prejudice, drilling to the cancerous heart of intolerance one laugh at a time."

Movie Review: “Brüno”

Seen on: July 6, 2009

The players: Director: Larry Charles, Writers: Sacha Baron Cohen, Cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines, Dan Mazer

Facts of interest: Larry Charles also directed "Borat" and "Religulous."

The plot: Cohen stars as a gay Austrian fashionista who travels to the U.S. to become a huge star.

Our thoughts: I walked into Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Brüno” with incredibly high expectations, but I really shouldn’t have. Sure, the film is mostly entertaining and at times immensely hilarious, but as it turns out, it’s by no means as original and refreshing as his 2006 smash hit “Borat.” Now, let uns see watt sis one is all abüt…

This week's new movie releases - July 10, 2009

This week, we're looking at two wide releases: Larry Charles' anticipated comedy "Brüno" with Sacha Baron Cohen; and Chris Columbus' comedy "I Love You, Beth Cooper" with Hayden Panettiere and Paul Rust:

BRUNO

Synopsis: From the creators of "Borat" comes "Brüno," a provocative comedy following a flamboyant gay Austrian fashionista (Sacha Baron Cohen) as he takes his show to America and around the world.

First thoughts: What can I say? "Brüno" is definitely one of only a few films I am really looking forward to this summer, and from what I've heard, the film delivers tons of laughs.

'Brüno' gets three hilarious TV spots!

Larry Charles' "Brüno" is set to open nationwide July 10, 2009, and if you think the wait for the flick is unbearable, check out three brand-new TV spots in the meantime.

All three spots include a bit of new footage, although most of it comes straight from the trailer. They sure do a great job at furhter highlighting the controversial content of the film, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen, the star of "Borat."

In "Brüno," Cohen travels the world pretending to be an Austrian fashionista. Whether he interviews Ron Paul, crashes the Miland Fashion Week, or gets himself into all sorts of other crazy trouble, Cohen sure knows how to entertain his audience.

I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard when I first watched "Borat," and I have the strong feeling this one will deliver quite a few big laughs as well. See what Brüno has to offer below.

Posters for 'Brüno,' 'Post Grad,' 'Management'

Before I wrap it up for today, here are some recent movie posters. The first one after the jump is the latest one-sheet for Larry Charles' upcoming comedy "Brüno," in which Sacha Baron Cohen travels the world pretending to be an Austrian fashionista. The film opens July 10, 2009, and as you can see the poster is somewhat provocative (and funny).

Ja, 'Brüno' gets hilarious red band trailer!

I totally loved "Borat," and I always enjoy what Sacha Baron Cohen does with his eccentric, offensive characters. On July 10, 2009 he will return to theaters, and this time, he pretends to be a gay Austrian fashionista.

An international restricted trailer for "Brüno" recently popped up on MySpace, and let me tell you, it's hilarious. It doesn't contain that much footage from the film, but what's in there definitely promises a vulgar, original and quite simply amusing comedy.

Created on Cohen’s popular TV show “Da Ali G Show,” Brüno is an Austrian fashionista and celebrity journalist who comes to America to interview people. And much like “Borat,” the film follows Cohen on his quest to trick people into believing he’s real.

Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Brüno' receives NC-17

I hate the MPAA. You want to know why? Because they have no clue how to properly rate movies. There, I said it. Anyway, the MPAA wants to protect kids across America, and bla bla bla...

Okay, seriously now. The Wrap reports the folks at the MPAA have slapped Sacha Baron Cohen's latest stunt "Brüno" with an NC-17 rating. Yes yes, Cohen is a baaaaaad boy.

Here's what the Wrap says caused the mean rating: "Among the objectionable scenes is one in which Bruno -- a gay Austrian fashionista played by Baron Cohen -- appears to have anal sex with a man on camera.

"In another, the actor goes on a hunting trip and sneaks naked into the tent of one of the fellow hunters, an unsuspecting non-actor."

Well, this was only the first submission of the film to the MPAA, which means there's plenty of time to make some cuts, edit some scenes and make everybody happy. Universal is obviously trying to snatch a R rating before the film opens in theaters July 10.

Much like “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” Cohen's "Brüno" follows one of his eccentric characters on his quest to trick people into believing he’s real. He plays an Austrian fashionista who comes to America to interview famous people.

Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Bruno' pushed to July

Just last week Sony Pictures pushed back Roland Emmerich's "2012" from July 10 to Nov. 13, and the first studio to make a move on that free spot is Universal.

As Variety reports, Universal moved Sacha Baron Cohen's new comedy "Bruno" from May 15 to July 10. The film will now open against Chris Columbus' "I Love You, Beth Cooper."

Much like “Borat,” Cohen's "Bruno" follows one of his eccentric characters on his quest to trick people into believing he’s real.

Created on Cohen’s popular TV show “Da Ali G Show,” Bruno is an Austrian fashionista and celebrity journalist who comes to America to interview famous people.

Usually I don't like these release moves too much, especially if it's a film I am really excited to see, but in this case, I really can't complain. I'll be moving that weekend in May and would not have been able to catch "Bruno" until later anyway.
