Box Office: 'Alice in Wonderland' takes $62M!

Weekend of March 12 – 14, 2010: 'Alice' still going strong while new releases struggle...

Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” continued its North American box office reign this weekend with a stunning three-day gross of $62 million in ticket sales at 3,728 locations, according to studio estimates Sunday. Domestically, “Alice” has now grossed $208.6 million in a little more than one week.

New entry “Green Zone,” Paul Greengrass’ explosive war thriller starring Matt Damon, debuted in second place with $14.5 million. Playing at 3,003 locations, the film scored an average of $4,840 per theater. Damon plays a U.S. soldier who starts doubting the existence of the Iraqi WMDs program.

Following at No. 3 this weekend was Jim Field Smith’s charming comedy “She’s Out of My League,” which bagged $9.6 million from ticket sales at 2,956 sites. The Paramount release stars Jay Baruchel as an insecure airport security guard whose life takes a surprising turn when a hot event planner asks him on a date.

Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson’s new film “Remember Me” finished fourth on the chart, earning $8.3 million. The “Twilight” star plays a young man who struggles with the suicide of his brother and falls in love with a young woman whose mother was murdered when she was a young girl.

Movie Review: “Remember Me”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: March 13, 2010

The players: Director: Allen Coulter, Writer: Will Fetters, Cast: Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Tate Ellington

Facts of interest: Allen Coulter also helmed "Hollywoodland."

The plot: A young man who struggles with the death of his brother meets and falls for a young woman whose mother was murdered when she was a kid.

Our thoughts: Will I remember Allen Coulter’s tragic drama “Remember Me” in a week? Chances are I won’t, but believe it or not, it’s actually not Robert Pattinson’s fault. The guy who lacks bite in the “Twilight” flicks really manages to deliver a better performance here, but sadly enough, it’s the script he’s working with that doesn’t stick.

'Alice in Wonderland' takes $17M Friday!

The estimates are in! Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" easily held on to the top spot at the North American box office Friday with a stunning $17.4 million in ticket sales. Disney's big 3D hit adventure reached a cumulative gross of $164 million after only one week in release, and that's quite a solid result.

The new releases occupied the rest of the top five Friday, according to estimates. Paul Greengrass' war thriller "Green Zone" took No. 2 with a daily gross of $5 million. The film stars Matt Damon as a soldier who's pissed that he can't find Saddam's WMDs anywhere. Universal's "Green Zone" is playing at 3,003 sites.

Will 'Alice in Wonderland' keep box office glory?

It is very likely that Tim Burton's 3D adventure "Alice in Wonderland" will top the North American box office again this weekend, and this despite the wave of new wide releases that will open in theaters tomorrow. So far, "Wonderland" has scored $139.8 million domestically.

That's what the total stands at after less than one full week in release. "Alice" took everyone by surprise last week when it delivered a monster opening of $116 million. It's also been doing very well this week, with daily grosses of $9 million, $7 million and $6 million for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The new releases this week include Matt Damon's war thriller "Green Zone," which opens in 2,900 locations and should perform well. "She's Out of My League" was promoted intensely as well, and it opens at 2,700 sites. Robert Pattinson's new film "Remember Me" debuts in 1,900 locations.

'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' trailer coming March 12!

Actually, it will come earlier, but Summit Entertainment today used Twitter to let fans know that the trailer for "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" will be attached to Robert Pattinson's new film "Remember Me."

"Remember Me" will open in theaters March 12, so you can see it on the big screen then. However, Summit also announced folks will be able to see the trailer early that week. Where? That is still a mystery for now.

David Slade's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" will open June 30, 2010, and Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner all return. Bryce Dallas Howard, Xavier Samuel and Catalina Sandino Moreno also star.

In "Eclipse," Bella is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob, knowing that her big decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf.

Oh, and about "Remember Me," it shows Pattinson as a rebellious young man who has a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family.

Robert Pattinson in 'Remember Me' trailer

Robert Pattinson stars in the upcoming Allen Coulter drama "Remember Me," and believe it or not, he's not playing a vampire. A trailer for the family drama has debuted online, and it follows after the jump.

The film was co-written by "Rachel Getting Married" scribe Jenny Lumet, and the trailer looks intense. It also doesn't look that bad, actually. Even Pattinson promises a warmer performance in the lead role.

He plays Tyler, a rebellious young man who has a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family. One day, he meets Ally (Emilie de Ravin) through a twist of fate.

Robert Pattinson on the set of 'Remember Me'

Robert Pattinson is currently shooting Remember Me

"Twilight" star Robert Pattinson is currently shooting "Remember Me" for director Allen Coulter, and the folks at ComingSoon received tons of set photos.

The stills you see on this page and over here feature Pattinson and actress Emilie de Ravin ("Lost"). They seem to bet getting pretty comfortable with each other in these scenes.

Pattinson plays a man whose parents (Pierce Brosnan and Lena Olin) split after this brother commits suicide. De Ravin is set to portray a woman who lives each day to the fullest after she witnesses the murder of her mother.

Coulter is directing a script by Will Fetters (rewrite by Jenny Lumet). If you can't get enough of Pattinson, he will return as Edward in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" later this year. "Remember Me" is set to open Feb. 12, 2010.
