Funny (bloody) clip from James Gunn's 'Super'

Rainn Wilson as superhero in Super

James Gunn's "Super" should arrive in theaters next year, and a new bloody clip from the superhero comedy has landed online. It shows Rainn Wilson getting a little more violent than we are used to.

Ellen Page, Live Tyler and Kevin Bacon star in "Super," which I admit I'm very eager to see. I mean, what can go wrong with Wilson playing a dramatic role of a depressed guy who thinks he can be a superhero?

In Super, Frank’s (Wilson) wife leaves him for a seductive, psychopathic drug dealer (Kevin Bacon). Frank is transformed and the Crimson Bolt is born. He's a dude messing with those not respecting the law.

With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife (Liv Tyler)! Enjoy the clip.

• David Slade, who directed "Hard Candy" and "30 Days of Night," and who recently signed on to helm “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” is also in talks to direct “Cold Skin,” a horror thriller based on Albert Sanchez Pinol’s Spanish novel. Jesus Olmo wrote the screenplay for the project, which is scheduled to shoot in March. (Variety)

The film was originally expected to open in Mexico June 5. Other delayed releases include "Angels & Demons" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." (Variety)

• Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rainn Wilson have signed on to star alongside Natalie Portman in Spencer Susser's indie flick "Hesher." Gordon-Levitt plays a young loser who collides with a 13-year-old who lives with his dad (Wilson) and grandmother. Portman plays a supermarket worker. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Robert Zemeckis may be thinking about developing a second “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” flick, he recently told MTV. “I’ll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability—the digital tools, performance capture—I’m starting to think about ‘Roger Rabbit,’” he said. I'm sure we;ll hear more about this soon.

Review: "The Rocker"

Seen on: August 21, 2008

The players: Director: Peter Cattaneo, Writers: Maya Forbes, Wallace Wolodarsky, Cast: Rainn Wilson, Christina Applegate, Jeff Garlin, Josh Gad, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis

Facts of interest: Cattaneo also directed "The Full Monty."

The plot: A failed drummer gets a second chance at fame when he's asked to join his nephew's high school band.

Our quick thoughts: Who ever thought Dwight Schrute had it in him to rock the stage? In Peter Cattaneo’s mildly entertaining comedy “The Rocker,” Rainn Wilson from NBC’s hit series “The Office” cuts loose in the role of Robert “Fish” Fishman, an enthusiastic drummer who slips into a deep crisis when he’s kicked out of his own rock band.

'The Rocker' web reviews

I have to admit I almost totally forgot about the Wednesday release of Peter Cattaneo's comedy "The Rocker," but I will post my review sometime tomorrow afternoon. In the film, Rainn Wilson stars as a failed rocker who gets a second shot at fame when his nephew asks him to join his high school band. Let's take a look at what the Web's critics have to say about it:

• Mariana McConnell at CinemaBlend: "Relying mostly on sentiment to fill the gaps, 'The Rocker' takes a Keith Moon approach to narrative: big start, big finish, middle doesn’t matter."

Cinematical's Eric D. Snider: "It's modestly entertaining, occasionally funny, and generally agreeable."

• Matt Goldberg at Collider: "A good portion of it is juvenile and Wilson, bless him, throws himself into every humiliation possible while still being lovable enough (barely) that we understand why his bandmates grow to respect him."
