Johnny Depp to star in fifth 'Pirates' movie?

Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" passed $1 billion at the global box office this past weekend, and that means it's time to move ahead with the next installment in the wildly popular adventure franchise. Where does this leave Captain Jack Sparrow?

Well, it seems like Johnny Depp could indeed return for a fifth film. The Wrap says Depp is currently negotiating a deal for "Pirates of the Caribbean 5," although eventually, it all comes down to whether he likes the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is working on it intensely.

Bruckheimer previously said "Pirates" would not move forward without Depp, but it seems like the story for film five is coming together, and Depp may be gearing up to return as Sparrow one more time. If he does, expect this project to hit the fast track.

Let's be honest: Depp is the main reason why this franchise survived and is performing so well, because truth be told, the quality of the films has been slipping ever since that brilliant first installment. If "4" can make $1 billion, I'm sure a fifth one will bag that as well...

Captain Jack will be back for fourth ‘Pirates’

It’s been quite a day for Disney. Besides announcing that “Cars 2” will hit theaters in 2011 and Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” the studio also revealed new information about several other upcoming films.

As Variety reports, Depp has also agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for a fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” flick. That’s all the information we have about that project at this stage.

Additionally, Depp will play Tonto in the adaptation of “The Lone Ranger.” Wow, looks like he's going to be really busy working on this close relationship with Disney.

Unfortunately, Jerry Bruckheimer and Nicholas Cage also announced a third “National Treasure” flick. I really don’t think making a fourth “Pirates” is a good idea, but another “Treasure”? Why doesn’t anyone come up with something new and original anymore?

Despite the sequel mania at today’s presentation, the fact that Depp boarded “Alice in Wonderland” is good news indeed. What do you guys think about all these announcements? Are you loving it? Or are you sick of Disney?
