Movie Review: 'Green Lantern'

Seen on: June 15, 2011

The players: Director: Martin Campbell, Writers: Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong

Facts of interest: Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, and Zack Snyder were all at one point approached to helm this film.

The plot: Hal Jordan (Reynolds), a talented yet arrogant test pilot, is the chosen recipient of a mysterious green ring that grants him both superhuman powers and entry into an elite corps of intergalactic warriors. This group is charged with saving the universe from the evil Parallax.

Our thoughts: Comic book fans have always endured a certain amount of mockery that superhero stories are just for kids or grown-ups suffering from arrested development. Well, "Green Lantern," Warner's staggering $300 million dollar train wreck won’t help matters. Worse yet, director Martin Campbell (who famously resurrected the James Bond franchise) can't decide who his target audience is.

A bunch of cool 'Green Lantern' posters debut

We already caught a glimpse of Ryan Reynolds as "Green Lantern," and now we're in for four really cool teaser posters for the upcoming Martin Campbell-directed action adventure, which hits June 17, 2011.

I like the design and appreciate the mystery they carry with them. Check them out below. They feature Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as Hector.

Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, a test pilot who comes into possession of a ring that holds great powers and later helps him become Green Lantern. Somehow, I'm getting more and more stoked about this flick.

Movie Review: "Knight and Day"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: June 16, 2010

The players: Director: James Mangold, Writers: Patrick O'Neill & others, Cast: Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Dano, Viola Davis

Facts of interest: Mangold also helmed "Walk the Line" and "3:10 to Yuma."

The plot: A secret agent in trouble runs into a charming woman, and together, they try to put an end to the chaos that surrounds them.

Our thoughts: Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are in great shape in James Mangold’s new action comedy “Knight and Day,” a silly, yet wildly entertaining summer blockbuster stuffed with witty dialogue, refreshingly brainless action and interesting enough characters you’ll instantly like. Oh, and as over the top as the movie really is, I have to admit it’s also incredibly easy to enjoy.

Action-packed 'Knight and Day' clip arrives

Knight and Day clips is action-packed

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are back on the screen in James Mangold's action comedy "Knight and Day," which opens in theaters June 23, 2010. Check out an action-packed clip from the flick below.

You can see some of this in the trailer as well, but it's a fun clip nonetheless. I'm still not entirely sure what to think of this flick, but the action makes it look like a fun ride. Let's hope the humor works too.

"Knight and Day" centers on a fugitive couple (Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz) on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem.

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are joining forces again in James Mangold's upcoming action-comedy "Knight and Day," and a second feature trailer for the film has just debuted on the Web. I'm still not entirely sure what to make of it, but I admit this new trailer promises at least some cool action sequences. The film is now set for release June 25, 2010. Viola Davis, Maggie Grace and Peter Sarsgaard co-star.

Fox's synopsis goes like this: The film centers on a fugitive couple (Cruise and Diaz) on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust. Movie Review: “Orphan”

Seen on: July 26, 2009

The players: Director: Jaume Collet-Serra, Writer: David Johnson, Cast: Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard, Isabelle Fuhrman, CCH Pounder, Jimmy Bennett

Facts of interest: Jaume Collet-Serra also directed "Goal II: Living the Dream."

The plot: A couple decides to adopt a child after the death of their baby daughter. Unfortunately, the girl they pick hides a terrible secret.

Our thoughts: There’s a new evil kid on the block, and wow, is she hardcore. Esther is her name, and you can discover her wickedness in Jaume Collet-Serra’s horror thriller “Orphan,” a so-so big-screen experience that delivers decent enough entertainment despite several flaws that are far more ridiculous than they are suspenseful.
