Sony embraces Almodóvar’s ‘Broken’

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the rights to distribute Pedro Almodóvar’s upcoming feature “Los Abrazos rotos” (Broken Embraces) in North America, according to Variety.

The Spanish helmer is currently shooting the film in Madrid and the Canary Islands. The story is described as a “four-person love story” that digs into several genres, including thriller and drama.

Penelope Cruz, Lluís Homar, Blanca Portillo and Lola Dueñas star. Cruz’s last collaboration with Almodóvar was “Volver,” for which she scored an Oscar nomination in 2007.

Almodóvar won an Academy Award for best original screenplay for “Hable con ella” (Talk to Her) in 2003.
