Although details here are still sketchy, John Hamburg, who worked on the script, recently said the main characters will deal with the birth of kids and could end up dealing with the themes of death and divorce.

Movie Review: “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: October 19, 2009

The players: Director: Paul Weitz, Writers: Brian Helgeland, Paul Weitz, Cast: John C. Reilly, Ken Watanabe, Josh Hutcherson, Chris Massoglia, Ray Stevenson

Facts of interest: Based on the books by Darren Shan.

The plot: A teenager visits a freak show and decides to jump on board and become a vampire, which really pisses off his best friend. A rivalry ensues...

Our thoughts: Paul Weitz’s “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” is the beginning of something we may even never get to see. It’s merely an introduction to what could be a more intriguing story, and that’s the main reason I simply couldn’t connect with this dark, periodically humorous vampire tale.

Jessica Alba to star in 'Little Fockers'

Jessica Alba

The lovely Jessica Alba is the latest to star in Paul Weitz's upcoming sequel "Little Fockers," the third installment in the popular comedy series following "Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers."

Risky Biz Blog says Alba would play an attractive pharmaceutical rep whose good looks will create trouble for some of the male characters in the film, which follows Pam and Greg as they deal with having kids.

Although details here are still sketchy, John Hamburg, who worked on the script, recently said the main characters will deal with the birth of kids and could end up dealing with the themes of death and divorce.

Trailer for 'The Vampire's Assistant' lands online

The Vampire's Assistant Trailer

The first trailer for Paul Weitz's upcoming horror adventure "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant" has just debuted online, and you can check it out after the jump.

Based on a series of books by Darren Shan, the film centers on a young man who attends an illegal freak show and later decides to join the club. Before he knows it, he finds himself at the center of a nasty feud between vampires and their rival clan.

Chris Massoglia, Josh Hutcherson, John C. Reilly, Jessica Carlson, Ray Stevenson, Patrick Fugit, Willem Dafoe, Salma Hayek and Ken Watanabe star.

I can't say I absolutely fell in love with this first footage, but then again, the trailer does look kind of entertaining. If done right, this one may actually be intriguing to watch.

Paul Weitz to direct Universal's 'Little Fockers'?

Could Universal Pictures possibly have found a director for its upcoming sequel "Little Fockers"? Maybe.

According to Variety, Paul Weitz is currently in talks to direct the third installment in the popular series, which will already head into prodcution in July.

Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are expected to star in the sequel to "Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers." John Hamburg recently rewrote an original script by Larry Stuckey.

Peter Segal, whose credits include "Get Smart," "The Longest Yard" and "50 First Dates," has been rumored to direct the film for a while, but I guess Weitz is now the front-runner.

Jay Roach, who helmed the first two films, will not return to direct because he's currently focusing on "Dinner for Schmucks" instead.

Weitz's credits include "American Dreamz," "In Good Company" and "About a Boy." He most recently directed "Cirque du Freak," which is set to open in 2010.

'Little Fockers' moving ahead at Universal

As you may have heard already, there will be a third installment in the popular franchise that started with "Meet the Parents" in 2000 and continued with "Meet the Fockers" in 2004.

Although we haven't heard or read that much about the project for a while now, Universal is apparently fast-tracking the sequel.

At least that's what Steven Zeitchik is reporting at Risky Biz Blog. He writes Universal has hired John Hamburg to write the screenplay. Larry Stuckey wrote an early draft.

Hamburg also worked on the previous "Focker" flicks, and he also directed the dreadful "Along Came Polly. His next flick, "I Love You, Man," will open March 20, 2009.

Zeitchik also reports Jay Roach, who helmed the first two films, will not return to direct. Apparently, he will focus on "Dinner for Schmucks" instead.
