'Paranormal Activity 2' has a director...

I never thought this day would come, but the whole "Paranormal Activity 2" director drama finally has an end. Oren Peli, the guy who helmed the first "Paranormal Activity," announced Friday that Tod Williams (also known as Kip Williams) will direct the sequel to the horror hit that grossed more than $100 million last year. Williams also helmed 2004's decent drama "The Door in the Floor."

Here is what Oren himself put on the movie's site: "I have some awesome news for the fans of 'Paranormal Activity - director Kip Williams will join us for the next chapter of the story. We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans... and I can't wait to be a part of what he's putting together."

Peli also said the story will surprise us, but I have my doubts. Okay, it may surprise us alright, but right now, I feel it will do so in a bad way. I mean, who really needs a sequel to a perfectly fine low-budget horror flick? What else will they do with this that we have not experienced in the first? Anyway, "Paranormal Activity 2" wil hit theaters Oct. 22, 2010. They better get started with this thing then.

Paramount gets 'Paranormal' director's next

Paramount Pictures scored a solid deal with Oren Peli's surprise horror hit "Paranormal Activity," and the studio has now acquired the distribution rights for the filmmaker's next low-budget project, "Area 51."

"Activity" cost less than $15,000 to make, but it grossed more than $100 million in the U.S. alone. "Area 51," according to Peter Bart and Michael Fleming, cost about $5 million. Peli wrote and directed the pic.

"51" tells the story of three teenagers who experience scary things when they reach Area 51 at the Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert. The film will follow the same style and structure of "Paranormal."

Movie Review: “Paranormal Activity”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: October 7, 2009

The players: Director: Oren Peli, Writer: Oren Peli, Cast: Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Michael Bayouth

Facts of interest: Produced with less than $15,000.

The plot: A happy couple moves into a hew suburban home and is soon haunted by a mysterious spirit at night.

Our thoughts: Now I clearly understand why midnight showings and all kinds of other screenings of Oren Peli’s low-budget horror thriller “Paranormal Activity” have been selling out everywhere. It’s an utterly intense and totally frightening big-screen experience that embraces simplicity but delivers one heck of a superb show.

Creepy trailer for 'Paranormal Activity' hits

Paranormal Activity

Do you know what's going on in your own bedroom at night while you're asleep? If not, I would sleep with one eye open. At least, the folks in "Paranormal Activity" should. Oren Peli's horror flick opens in theaters this fall, and a creepy trailer for the film has debuted online. Check it out after the jump.

After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban “starter” tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.
