'Revenge of the Fallen' picks up $162M overseas

Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" topped the international box office this weekend with a stunning $162 million in ticket sales. The film's overseas total currently stands at $181.6 million.

Despite a superb launch on the international circuit, "Fallen" failed to break the $251.1 million opening week run of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." Domestically, the sequel to "Transformers" brought in $201.2 million after a five-day run.

At No. 2, "Terminator Salvation" picked up another $10.4 million, reaching a total haul of $220 million. Following in third place with $10.1 million was "The Hangover," which lifted its overseas cume to $46.2 million.

Meanwhile, Anne Fletcher's "The Proposal" took home $7.2 million for a cumulative gross of $22.7 million. Finishing fifth this weekend was "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," which reached $202.3 million after earnings of $5.2 million.

'Transformers 2' tops overseas box office

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen tops overseas box office

Michael Bay's anticipated sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" debuted in only two markets this weekend, but that was enough to score $20 million and the top spot at the international box office.

"Fallen" is currently playing at 846 locations in the U.K. and Japan, and it looks like the follow-up to "Transformers" will easily beat the debut of its predecessor. The film opens in the U.S. this Wednesday.

At No. 2, McG's "Terminator Salvation" took home $18.4 million, lifting its total gross to $200 million. Following in third place was Todd Phillips' comedy "The Hangover," which brought its overseas cume to $30.4 million.

Meanwhile, "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" collected $10.4 million in fourth place, reaching a total haul of $192.5 million. "The Proposal" opened in fifth place with a weekend gross of $10 million.

Other results from the overseas box office: "Angels & Demons" picked up $8.4 million for a total of $329.2 million; "Up" brought in $6 million; "State of Play" pulled $3.4 million; and "Drag Me to Hell" collected $2 million.

'Terminator Salvation' stays on top overseas

McG's action spectacle "Terminator Salvation" clung to the No. 1 spot at the international box office this weekend with an estimated $46.1 million in ticket sales. The Christian Bale vehicle lifted its total gross to $165.5 million.

At No. 2, "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" picked up $17.9 million in 104 territories, bringing its overseas cume to $176.2 million. The sequel's domestic gross currently stands at $134.4 million.

Finishing third this weekend was Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons," which took home another $14.1 million for a total gross of $315 million.

Meanwhile, "The Hangover" grabbed the No. 4 spot with $11.6 million in 15 markets. Following in fifth place with a weekend gross of $8.2 million and a total haul of $26.6 million was Pixar's "Up," which is currently playing in 14 markets and will expand in the coming weeks.

Box Office: 'The Hangover' hangs on to No. 1 spot

Weekend of June 12 – 14, 2009

Todd Phillips’ hit comedy “The Hangover” topped the North American box office for a second consecutive week with $33.4 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The R-rated film successfully fought off this week’s new releases “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” and “Imagine That,” lifting its domestic total to a solid $105.3 million. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helm and Zach Galifianakis star as three guys who lose their best friend on a night out in Vegas.

Tony Scott’s latest thriller “Pelham 1 2 3” only made it to No. 3, earning $25 million from sales at 3,074 locations. Denzel Washington plays a New York City subway dispatcher who’s pulled into the middle of the hijacking of one of his trains.

Imagine That,” the weekend’s second wide release, debuted in sixth place with only $5.7 million. Playing at 3,008 locations, the family film stars Eddie Murphy as a busy financial executive who finds the key to his success in his daughter’s imaginary world.

'Terminator Salvation' takes overseas b.o. lead

McG's "Terminator Salvation" took the No. 1 spot at the international box office this weekend with an impressive $67.5 million in ticket sales. The film's total currently stands at $97.2 million.

At No. 2, Shawn Levy's Ben Stiller comedy "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" collected another $26.7 million, bringing its overseas gross to $148.4 million.

Meanwhile, Ron Howard's "The Da Vinci Code" follow-up "Angels & Demons" finished in third place, taking home $22.3 million for a cumulative gross of $293 million.

Pixar's animated family adventure "Up" picked up $7.8 million at No. 4 for an early international total of $13.5 million. The film is currently playing in four markets on the circuit.

Pixar’s “Up” topped the North American box office for a second consecutive weekend with $44.2 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Playing at 3,818 locations, the Pete Docter-directed animated adventure brought its domestic gross to $137.3 million after a strong two-week run. The plot follows a 78-year-old widower who takes his entire house on a trip to South America.

Debuting in second place with $43.2 million from 3,521 locations was Todd Philiips’ latest comedy “The Hangover.” The R-rated film stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helm and Zach Galifianakis as three guys who lose their best friend on a night out in Vegas.

Following at a distant No. 3 was Brad Silberling’s adventure comedy “Land of the Lost,” which collected only $19.5 million from 3,521 locations. Will Ferrell stars as an egocentric scientist who travels to a parallel dimension inhabited by hostile creatures.

'The Hangover' takes Friday box office crown

Todd Phillips' latest comedy "The Hangover" topped the North American box office Friday with an estimated $16.5 million in ticket sales.

Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, the film follows three guys who lose their best friend (Justin Bartha) during a wild night out in Las Vegas. "The Hangover" is currently playing at 3,269 locations.

At No. 2, Pixar's "Up" collected another $13.5 million, bringing its total gross to $106.5 million after only one week in release. The Pete Docter-helmed animated film follows a 78-year-old as he embarks on an adventure to South America.

Meanwhile, new entry "Land of the Lost" only finished third, scoring $7.2 million from 3,521 locations. Directed by Brad Silberling, the comedy stars Will Ferrell as a crazy scientist who discovers a new dimension filled with awkward creatures.

Shawn Levy's "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" slipped to No. 4 Friday, taking home $4.5 million for a domestic total of $117.2 million. Following in fifth place with $2.5 million was Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell," which lifted its cume to $23.7 million.

'Battle of the Smithsonian' tops overseas b.o.

Shawn Levy's Ben Stiller vehicle "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" climbed to the top spot at the international box office this weekend with an estimated $37.2 million in ticket sales. The film's total gross currently stands at $106 million.

At No. 2, Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons" took home another $32.9 million, lifting its cumulative gross to $251.7 million. Following in third place with $13 million was McG's "Terminator Salvation," which brought its overseas total to $23.1 million.

Meanwhile, Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" finished fourth with a weekend gross of $8.1 million and a total haul of $170.1 million. J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" scored the fifth spot on the international circuit this weekend, collecting $8 million for a cume of $101.5 million.

Opening this weekend were Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell," which picked up $4.4 million in three markets, and Pixar's "Up," which brought in $4.2 million.

Other results from the overseas box office: "Hannah Montana: The Movie" took home $2.4 million; "Monsters vs. Aliens" grabbed another $3.1 million; "State of Play" picked up $2.6 million; and "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" reached a total gross of $11.3 million.

Pixar’s “Up” safely landed at the No. 1 spot at the North American box office this weekend with $68.2 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Directed by Peter Docter, the animated family adventure opened at 3,766 locations, scoring an average of $18,109 per theater. The story follows a 78-year-old widower who decides to fulfill his dream and take his entire house on a trip to South America.

Last week’s champion “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” dropped to second place, earning another $25.5 million for a domestic total of $105.2 after a strong two-week run.

Debuting at No. 3 with $16.6 million from 2,508 locations was Sam Raimi’s horror flick “Drag Me to Hell.” In the film, Alison Lohman plays an ambitious loan officer whose life turns into a living hell after she’s cursed by a creepy old lady.

Pixar's 'Up' grabs $21M Friday

A scene from UpPixar's latest family adventure "Up" flew to the top of the North American box office Friday with a solid $21.4 milllion in ticket sales (the film opened at 3,766 locations). That's just $1.7 million less than the studio's previous film, "WALL-E."

Directed by Pete Docter, the film follows a 78-year-old man who decides to fulfill his dream and take his entire house on an exciting trip to South America. Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer and Jordan Nagai lead the voice cast.

At No. 2, Shawn Levy's Ben Stiller vehicle "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" grabbed another $7.5 million, lifting its domestic total to $87.3 million.

Meanwhile, Sam Raimi's latest horror flick "Drag Me to Hell" debuted in third place Friday, earning $6.4 million from 2,508 locations. Starring Alison Lohman, the film follows a loan officer who is cursed by a creepy old lady.

McG's "Terminator Salvation" took home $5 million at No. 4, bringing its cumulative gross to $79.6 million. Following in fifth place with $3.6 million was J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," which reached a total haul of $200.3 million.
