Five films that absolutely sucked this year

5. FIRED UP!
Yes, this is that lame movie about two guys going to cheer camp to hook up with chicks, and yes, it is as terrible as it sounds. Stupid characters, painful dialogue and jokes that simply don't work are all over this flick, which is pretty much as absurd as filmmaking can get. Wait, calling it filmmaking is a mistake in the first place. I'm just going to call it big-screen trash. Yes, that sounds about right. More about this one here.

Movie Review: "Miss March"

Seen on: March 18, 2009

The players: Directors: Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore, Writers: Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore, Cast: Molly Stanton, Holly Hindman, Trevor Moore, Sara Jean Underwood, Zach Cregger

Facts of interest: None at all.

The plot: Two morons embark on a road trip to the Playboy mansion to track down one of the guys' former girlfriend.

Our thoughts: I’ve already seen plenty of utterly crappy movies this year, but Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore’s lame comedy “Miss March” may just be the worst one yet. Neither funny nor remotely interesting, this unnecessary mess of a movie is one of those failures that suck the money out of your wallet and offer you absolutely nothing in return.

Box Office: 'Witch Mountain' wins weekend race

Weekend of March 13 - 15, 2009

"Race to Witch Mountain" defeated its competition at the North American box office this weekend with $24.4 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Directed by Andy Fickman, Walt Disney's latest family adventure stars Dwayne Johnson as a Las Vegas taxi driver helping two alien kids return to their spaceship. The film is based on the book by Alexander Key.

Last week's winner "Watchmen" dropped to No. 2, earning $17.8 million for a domestic total of $85.7 million. Based on the celebrated graphic novel by Alan Moore, the film tells the story of a group of superheroes investigating one of their colleagues' murder.

Debuting in third place this weekend with $14.1 million was "The Last House on the Left," a remake of Wes Craven's 1972 horror flick of the same title. The plot follows two parents seeking revenge against a group of sociopaths who raped their daughter.

"Race to Witch Mountain" outran its competition at the North American box office Friday with an estimated $6.7 million in ticket sales.

Seven lame clips from 'Miss March'

If you're not quite sure whether to see "Miss March" this weekend, check out these seven new clips from the upcoming comedy. They may make your decision easier, one way or the other.

As far as I am concerned, they make me dread seeing this flick even more. Yes, I watched all of this new footage with patience, but I just couldn't pull a single smile.

Written and directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, this upcoming comedy follows a guy who embarks on a trip to the Playboy mansion after he wakes up from a four-year coma and discovers his former sweetheart has become a centerfold.

Not only does this sound unoriginal, but it also looks lame. And don't you think Moore's acting in the role of Tucker looks dreadful? I probably won't even call it acting.

Anyway, "Miss March" opens this weekend, and although it doesn't look that way at this stage, I can only hope it will be at least a tad more entertaining than "Fired Up!."

This week's new movie releases - March 13, 2009

We're in for another Friday the 13th this week, and things are a little busier at the movies. The following films open this Friday: "Race to Witch Mountain" with Dwayne Johnson; "Miss March" with Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore; and "The Last House on the Left," a horror flick with Sara Paxton and Monica Potter. Let's take a closer look:

RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN

Synopsis: A taxi driver gets more than get bargained for when he picks up two teen runaways. Not only does the pair possess supernatural powers, but they're also trying desperately to escape people who have made them their targets.

First thoughts: Andy Fickman ("The Game Plan") reteams with Dwayne Johnson for this Disney remake, which, judging by its trailer and TV spots, doesn't look that awesome. Sure, it looks like a fast-paced enough action flick the kiddies may enjoy, but I'm not at all sure whether I should walk into this one with high expectations.

What to expect at the movies in March '09

January was a disappointing month as far as new movie releases were concerned, and to be honest, February hasn't been that great of a month either. But what about March? Will we finally be able to see more than just one or two solid films in one month?

I have to admit my expectations are pretty high. The movie month of March kicks off with Zack Snyder's anticipated "Watchmen," a film many folks out there are just dying to see. Some early reviews I read are pretty mixed, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'm really excited to see this flick, and I hope it will deliver the goods.

The following weekend, however, doesn't look that exciting. One of the three releases set for March 13 is "Race to Witch Mountain," in which Dwayne Johnson helps two alien kids return to their crashed spaceship. Judging by the previews, the film looks rather crappy, but maybe it's the Rock's bad acting that just scares me too much.

'Miss March' gets new red band trailer

I still can't get over the fact that "Miss March" features a scene in which a chick unlocks a door with her tongue. Yeah, that pretty much tells you a lot about the movie already, right?

Written and directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, "March" follows a young man who awakens from a four-year coma to hear his former high-school sweetheart has become a "Playboy" centerfold.

Determined to win her back, he and his insane best friend embark on a cross-country road trip straight to the Playboy mansion.

The new red band trailer you can check out after the jump is obviously a lot raunchier than the first preview. Brainless slapstick seems to rule the day in "Miss March," and I can only hope it won't be as disgusting as last year's "College."

"Miss March" opens March 13, 2009.

Silly trailer for 'Miss March' hits

Have you ever seen a chick unlocking a door with her tongue? If not, check out the trailer for "Miss March" right after the jump.

Written and directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, this upcoming comedy follows a guy who embarks on a trip to the Playboy mansion after he wakes up from a four-year coma and discovers his former sweetheart has become a centerfold.

Okay, the basic idea doesn't sound all too rotten, but as you can see in this preview, "Miss March" looks like a pretty simplistic, raunchy comedy filled with brainless slapstick.

Besides Cregger and Moore, the film also stars Raquel Alessi, Molly Stanton and Alexis Raben, among others. Release is set for March 13.

Check out the trailer below and share your thoughts. I've had it with all these road flicks for a while.
