Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer join 'New Year's'

"New Year's Eve," is Gary Marshall's follow-up to the mediocre ensemble romance "Valentine's Day," and the cast for the sequel is growing fast: Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer are the latest to consider it.

Also in negotiations to star in the flick are Hilary Swank and Ashton Kutcher, according to THR. The flick follows several New York City individuals as they deal with love-related issues around New Year's Eve.

The trade also says De Niro would play a dying man stuck in a hospital. Pfeiffer's character is an executive secretary. Kutcher will be a dude who hates on New Year's, and Swank will play a producer.

Movie Review: “Chéri”

Seen on: June 19, 2009

The players: Director: Stephen Frears, Writer: Christopher Hampton, Cast: Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathy Bates, Rupert Friend, Bette Bourne, Felicity Jones

Facts of interest: Stephen Frears also directed "The Queen."

The plot: A famous courtesan's plans to reture are shattered when she launches into an affair with a much younger man.

Our thoughts: Director Stephen Frears reunites with his “Dangerous Liaisons” actress Michelle Pfeiffer in his latest drama “Chéri,” based on the popular 1920 novel by French author Colette. The result, though not as intriguing as some of Frears’ other recent works, is certainly watchable, with Pfeiffer and co-actor Rupert Friend delivering a pair of compelling performances.
