Review: "Eagle Eye"

Seen on: September 26, 2008

The players: Director: D.J. Caruso, Writers: Daniel McDermott, Travis Adam Wright, John Glenn, Hillary Seitz, Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Azizi, Billy Bob Thornton

Facts of interest: Steven Spielberg served as executive producer on the film.

The plot: A slacker (LaBeouf) and a single mom (Monaghan) are framed as terrorists and forced to engage in a political assassination.

Our thoughts: Big bro. is watching like never before in D.J. Caruso’s “Eagle Eye,” a totally unrealistic but thoroughly entertaining thriller that delivers enough vibrant action to make you ignore most of the film’s obvious flaws.

'Eagle Eye' web reviews

D.J. Caruso returns to the big screen with "Eagle Eye," a new action flick starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan as a slacker and a mom who are framed as terrorists and forced to participate in a political assassination. I will see the movie here in just a few hours, but I have to admit I am pretty excited at this stage (my review follows later today). For now though, let's see how the film was received online:

• JimmyO at Joblo: "If you are looking for a popcorn movie, this is as good as any. In fact, I’d say it’s better than most. While not always in the realm of reality, the excitement and tension is most definitely a groovy ride."

• Adam Sweeney at FilmSchoolRejects: "'Eagle Eye' will give action fans exactly what they want and should be commended for trying to take a smarter approach to a blockbuster film. However, the difficulty to cross genres and create a cohesive script seems a bit out of reach for the film’s writers."

D.J. Caruso discusses 'Eagle Eye'

Today I stumbled across a pretty interesting interview with director D.J. Caruso over at Movieweb. It's a great piece if you want to find out what he has to say about his upcoming film "Eagle Eye," which stars Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan and Billy Bob Thornton. He does also briefly speak about some of his future projects.

Here's a snippet from what Caruso thinks about the film's pacing:

"Oh, it does keep going but the editing process was more about letting the movie slow down a bit so we could get with the characters and get with the story because every roller-coaster has those up moments where you're going, 'Oh shit. How high is this thing going?' and then it goes downhill. I will say, and I mean this in a good way, it's a pretty exhausting movie."

If you're curious and would like to read more, follow this link right here. "Eagle Eye" hits Sept. 26, 2008.

Check out this new 'Eagle Eye' clip

One flick I'm really looking forward to this month is D.J. Caruso's thriller "Eagle Eye," which opens Sept. 26. Starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan, the plot centers on a slacker and a mom who are framed as terrorists and forced to participate in a political assassination.

The clip just above is merely an extension of a scene from the trailer, showing Shia as he's interrogted by Billy Bob Thornton. Not much action going on, but I thought I'd post it for you anyway. Enjoy.
