Casting alert: Michael Shannon in 'Premium Rush'

Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon, who briefly shows up in the disastrous "Jonah Hex," is boarding "Premium Rush," a thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Jamie Chung is also part of the flick.

Written by David Koepp, who is also directing, the film follows a bike messenger who gets chansed by a ruthless cop because he's transporting a mysterious envelope. Shannon would play the cop, of course.

The Hollywood Reporter says Chung would be playing Gordon-Levitt's ex. John Kamps co-wrote the script. Shannon scored an Oscar nomination for his awesome performance in "Revolutionary Road.

Finally! First 'Jonah Hex' trailer debuts online

It sure took a while, but the first trailer for Jimmy Hayward's upcoming action adventure "Jonah Hex" has finally found its way to the web. After all, the movie is opening in theaters June 18, 2010, and this is the first footage we see from the film based on John Albano and Tony DeZuniga’s graphic novel.

As expected, the trailer boasts a bunch of gun battles and fun action sequences, and it looks like "Jonah Hex" will be quite the entertaining adventure. Brolin seems to be the right guy for the role, but I'm still not entirely sold on Megan Fox. This character may work for her, but she fails to impress in this trailer.

Movie Review: “The Runaways"

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: The film follows the story of how The Runaways got together and what happened to them before they broke up.

Our thoughts: Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning rock the stage in “The Runaways,” and if it weren’t for them, this musical biopic wouldn’t run very far. This is the epitome of a movie succeeding because of its cast, and that’s reason enough to head to theaters this weekend and check it out. That, and the amount of rock you’ll get to experience.

Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning on 'Runaways' set

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning are currently shooting Floria Sigismondi's upcoming music biopic "The Runaways," and the folks at JustJared have just posted several set pics. Check out two above and below, and more here.

The plot will focus on the formation of The Runaways all the way to the end of their career as a group. The all-girl band came together in 1975, producing famous songs such as "Cherry Bomb" and "Queens of Noise."

Joan Jett (Stewart), the lead character in the movie, later formed the Blackhearts and returned back to fame with "I Love Rock N' Roll." Fanning (dang, she's growing up fast isn't she?) plays singer Cheri Currie.

Sigismondi wrote the screenplay and is directing the feature, which is set for release next year. Stewart and Fanning will also been seen together in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."

Daily news dose: Lucy Punch joins Woody Allen flick; 'Twilight' wins big at MTV Movie Awards

Here's your dose of film news for June 1, 2009:

• Lucy Punch, whose credits include "The Class" and "Hot Fuzz," will replace Nicole Kidman in Woody Allen's upcoming film. Plot details are still kept under wraps, but the cast also includes Freida Pinto, Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Josh Brolin. (Variety)

• Halle Berry is in negotiations to star in Paul Verhoeven's "The Surrogate," a thriller based on the book by Kathryn Mackel. The story follows a couple who discovers the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is completely nuts. Berry last starred in "Things We Lost in the Fire." (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road") is almost set to star in "The Runaways," the biopic of the popular girl rock band. He's joining Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. • Because I don't think the MTV Movie Awards deserve a separate entry, here are some winners: "Twilight" wins best movie; Kristen Stewart wins best actress; Zac Efron wins best actor; Heath Ledger wins best villain (only decent outcome); and Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson win the award for best kiss. Yeah, the MTV Movie Awards suck indeed.

Will Arnett, Michael Shannon board 'Jonah Hex'

Will Arnett and Michael Shannon have signed on to star in the big-screen adaptation of John Albano and Tony DeZuniga’s graphic novel “Jonah Hex" for Warner Bros.

Jimmy Hayward is directing the film, which also stars Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Megan Fox. Hex (Brolin) is a bounty hunter and gunslinger with a scarred face.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Arnett is set to play Union soldier enlisting Hex. Shannon is on-board to play Doc Cross Williams, ringleader of a gladiator circus event.

Arnett's voice can currently be heard on the big screen in "Monsters vs. Aliens." He will also soon star in "G-Force" and "When in Rome."

As for Shannon, he was recently nominated for an Oscar for "Revolutionary Road. He's got two productions coming up soon: "13" and "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done."
