'Youth in Revolt' pushed back to 2010

Michael Cera in Youth in Revolt

If you planned to see Michael Cera's new film "Youth in Revolt" in theaters this October, you will have to wait a little. The Weinstein Co. today moved the film from its Oct. 20, 2009 slot to Jan. 15, 2010.

A Dimension Films rep told Variety "Revolt" will be a good counterprogramming to other titles opening In January. Currently, the Miguel Arteta-directed comedy goes up against "Book of Eli" and "Hoodwinked Too."

Watch Michael Cera in 'Youth in Revolt' trailer

Youth in Revolt

Michael Cera is at it again in Miguel Arteta's upcoming comedy "Youth in Revolt," and a first trailer for the upcoming film has just debuted online. Check it out after the jump, because it looks intriguing. Flick is the big-screen adaptation of C.D. Payne’s novel of the same title.

"Youth in Revolt" is the irreverent story about the wild adventures of a teenage boy named Nick Twisp, who meets the girl of his dreams while on a family vacation and has to turn his life and the lives of all those around him upside down in order to be with her.

'Year One' web reviews

Jack Black and Michael Cera play two cavemen who go on a big adventure in Harold Ramis' comedy Year One

Jack Black and Michael Cera play two cavemen who go on a big adventure in Harold Ramis' comedy "Year One," and here is what the Web's critics have to say (read my review here):

Joblo's Jenna Bush: "The film has very little narrative, and what there is seems to be dumped half way through."

Cinematical's Jeffrey M. Anderson: "Black is a good reason why most of this works."

CinemaBlend's Josh Tyler: "'Year One' has no point, no purpose really other than stick Jack Black and Michael Cera in loincloths so they can wander around in front of the camera."

Latino Review's Ron Henriques: "I absolutely can not recommend this film, but I felt a little sad because it had some potential."

• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "Ramis racked up the talent to give this story a run, but it never got out of the starting gate."

• Matt Goldberg at Collider: "Without any memorable humor, story, or characters, 'Year One' is a pointless endeavor and offers us nothing we haven’t seen or heard somewhere else before."

Movie Review: “Year One”

Seen on: June 17, 2009

The players: Director: Harold Ramis, Writers: Gene Stupnitsky, Lee Eisenberg, Harold Ramis, Cast: Jack Black, Michael Cera, Oliver Platt, David Cross, Hank Azaria

Facts of interest: Ramis also directed "The Ice Harvest," "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This."

The plot: Jack Black and Michael Cera play two idiotic cavemen who are banished from their village and embark on a long voyage to dangerous places.

Our thoughts: Jack Black and Michael Cera travel back in time in Harold Ramis’ latest comedy “Year One,” but sadly enough, their big-screen journey across ancient times isn’t exactly as hilarious as it sounds. The recurrence of cheap, brainless humor and the lack of a proper story line cause plenty of damage to the plot, putting the film’s chances to score with large audiences in serious jeopardy.

This week's new movie releases - June 19, 2009

This week, we're only looking at two wide releases: Harold Ramis' comedy "Year One" with Jack Black and Michael Cera; and Anne Fletcher's "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds:

Sandra Bullock in The Proposal

THE PROPOSAL

Synopsis: Sandra Bullock is a Canadian immigrant who is a demanding and difficult boss. Upon discovering she's about to be deported, she rushes into a marriage of convenience with her young assistant (Ryan Reynolds) to prevent the catastrophe.

First thoughts: Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds both have the ability to deliver solid performances, and I sincerely hope "The Proposal" gave them decent material to work with. To be honest with you, I'm not quite sure what to think about this one.

TV spot mania: 'Year One' / 'Revenge of the Fallen' / 'Half-Blood Prince'

How about starting the week with some exciting TV spots? Scroll down a bit, and you can check out two new spots from David Yates' upcoming "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which will hit theaters July 15, 2009.

Both spots include some new footage, and while one of them takes a closer look at all the romance in the new film, the other one promotes the flick's action. Anyone else really looking forward to Harry's sixth adventure? I sure am.

Next up is a new spot for Michael Bay's anticipated "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." While it's not as vibrant as its predecessors, it does boats plenty of new footage, so I strongly suggest you check it out as well.

Finally, you can scroll all the way down for a quick chat between Jack Black and Michael Cera in a special promotional spot for their upcoming comedy "Year One," due in theaters this Friday. I don't think it's a funny one, but maybe you disagree.

Kieran Culkin joins 'Scott Pilgrim' adaptation

Kieran Culkin has signed on to star in Edgar Wright’s upcoming action comedy “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," based on the graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malle.

The film centers on a guy who has to defeat his new girlfriend’s seven ex-boyfriends. “Superbad” star Michael Cera will play titular character Scott Pilgrim, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead will take over the role of his love interest.

HitFix reported Culkin will play Wallace Wells, Pilgrim's responsible gay roomate, with whom he shares a bed (Pilgrim, however, is heterosexual).

Kieran, one of Macaulay's brothers, was last seen in 2002's drama "Igby Goes Down." His latest flick, "Lymelife," is debuting at this year's Sundance. Culkin is also currently filming "Paper Man" for Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

Michael Bacall penned he screenplay for "Pilgrim." Wright most recently directed “Hot Fuzz.”

Michael Cera's secret project to debut soon

After all of Michael Cera's recent success, it's hard to imagine the actor is starring in an upcoming project nobody's ever heard of before.

In today's world of filmmaking, it's pretty tough to keep secrets, but the people behind the indie film "Paper Hearts" have done a pretty solid job so far.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Paper Hearts," which stars Cera and other folks from Judd Apatow's crew, is expected to hit the big screen at the next Sundance Film Festival.

Almost nothing is known about the film at this stage, although the trade says sources describe it as a "part-documentary, part-scripted comedy about the real-life relationship between Cera and his girlfriend, Charlyne Yi."

Oh, and apparently, music plays a big role in the movie as well. While this doesn't tell us much, I have to admit I now am eager to learn more.

Cera most recently starred in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist." The star has plenty of projects coming up, including "The Year One" and "Youth in Revolt."

Who ever thought Cera would go all secret on us, huh?

Review: “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”

Seen on: October 4, 2008

The players: Director: Pete Sollett, Writer: Lorene Scafaria, Cast: Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, Ari Graynor, Rafi Gavron, Alexis Dziena

Facts of interest: Based on the novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

The plot: Nick (Cera) and Norah (Dennings) spend an incredible chaotic but eventually magical night in New York City.

Our thoughts: Peter Sollett’s “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” has enough rhythm to maintain the audience’s attention for 90 minutes, but the film definitely lacks the surprise factor we’ve come to appreciate in this new genre of teenage comedies. It’s a shame, really, because the movie holds plenty of unexploited potential.
