David Slade to direct 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse'

Nikki Finke already hinted at it, and now it's confirmed: Summit Entertainment has set David Slade to direct "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," the third film in the series based on the popular books by Stephenie Meyer. Over the past months, we've heard plenty of things about possible candidates for the job, but now the speculations are over.

Meyer said she's "thrilled" Slade jumped on board to helm the flick. Slade's directing credits include the brilliant thriller "Hard Candy" and the decent horror flick "30 Days of Night." Melissa Rosenberg, who also penned "Twilight" and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," has already been working on the script for "Eclipse," which will open June 30, 2010.

Future of 'Twilight' looking bright for fans

With all the craziness going on about the upcoming release of Catherine Hardwicke's vampire romance "Twilight," Summit Entertainment is already working hard developing sequels.

Although we already knew that at least one follow-up would be heading our way in the near future, Summit has acquired the right to Stephenie Meyer's next three novels in the popular series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Yes fans, you'll certainly be able to see Edward and Bella on the big screen more than once. The trade says Melissa Rosenberg, who wrote the first adaptation, is already on board to tackle the screenplays for "New Moon" and "Eclipse."

No writer is currently attached to adapt "Breakind Dawn," the fourth book.

It's pretty safe to say Summit has already scored big with the upcoming release of "Twilight." I mean, this film has generated just as much - if not more - buzz than "The Dark Knight."

For all the Twilighters out there, the long wait will be over Nov. 21, when the first book comes to life on the silver screen. I still haven't read the books and probably won't get a chance to (too many movies to watch), but I sure am eager to see what all this insane fuss is about.

Melissa Rosenberg chats 'Twilight' adaptation

The guys over at ShockTillYouDrop.com recently sat down and chatted with Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted Stephenie Meyer's acclaimed novel "Twilight" for the big screen. In the interview you can read right here, Rosenberg talks about how she ended up with the project and what challenges she encountered during the writing process.

Here is a quick snippet from the interview:

"It was less trimming the fat and more condensing it. There are a lot of conversations that play well obviously in the book, less so on the screen - the sitting and talking scenes, I mean. The essence of it, you distill it down to the essence of those character's emotional arcs and still hit the same points to move the story forward and stay true to the book."
Rosenberg's writing credits also include Anne Fletcher's 2006 surprise hit "Step Up." She also worked as co-executive producer on several episodes of television's "The O.C." and "Dexter."

"Twilight" is directed by Catherine Hardwicke and stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The flick opens nationwide Nov. 21, 2008.
