Daily news dose: 'Battleship' gets release date; Harrison Ford says 'Indy 5' story in the progress

Here is a collection of short but important movie news out of Hollywood and from the Web:

• Universal plans to release Peter Berg's "Battleship" July 1, 2011. The film is a live-action version of the popular Hasbro board game. Berg told Variety the film is "a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle."

• Harrison Ford apparently can't wait to return to the world of Indiana Jones. Speaking with France's Le Figaro, he said the story for a fifth "Indiana Jones" flick is already taking shape. George Lucas is busy working on the story, he said. I think they should just leave Indy alone for good. Enough is enough.

Here are some short but interesting film news that appeared in the trades and on the Web today:

• Billy Bob Thornton is in talks to star in "Pound for Pound," a boxing flick based on F.X. Toole's novel. Writing and directing the project is Ron Shelton. The film focuses on two men whose lives intersect. Thornton would be playing a retired, widowed boxer who slips into depression after his grandson is killed in an accident. The other one is a young Latino fighter struggling with life as well.

Gyllenhaal, Hathaway to share onscreen romance

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway will play a couple in new filmJake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are in talks to star in Edward Zwick's upcoming "Love and Other Drugs" (previously titled "Pharma") for Fox 2000 and New Regency.

Based on the book "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman" by Jamie Reidy, the film follows a drug salesman who falls for a woman with Parkinson's (Hathaway).

Charles Randolph ("The Interpreter," "The Life of David Gale") wrote the screenplay. Filming, according to the Hollywood Reporter, is set to begin this fall.

Zwick most recently directed "Defiance." Hathaway, who recently starred in "Bride Wars," will soon be seen in "Alice in Wonderland." As for Gyllenhaal, he's got "Brothers," "Nailed" and "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" coming soon.

Gyllenhaal and Hathaway previously shared some onscreen time in Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain."
