Box Office: 'The Expendables' stays on top

Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" did a great job defending its No. 1 spot at the North American box office, pulling in another $16.5 million to reach a strong cumulative gross of $64.8 million.

It looked like a close race between Sly's action film and "Vampires Suck," but "The Expendables" prevailed. "Suck," however, finished second with a decent $12.2 million in estimated ticket sales.

"Vampires Suck" opened Wednesday and brought its total haul to $18.5 million after this weekend's earnings. It was followed by "Eat Pray Love," which bagged $12 million for a total haul of $47.1 million.

The remaining new entries didn't rank that high. "Lottery Ticket" debuted at No. 4 with $11.1 million, while "Piranha 3D" generated only $10 million (No. 6) and "Nanny McPhee earned $8.3 million at No. 7.
