As we launch into the fall movie season, I figured it would be a great time to look at some trailers that blew my mind recently. Here are the top five trailers for movies still to open this year. Please be advised I picked these based solely on the quality of the trailers and the trailers only.

Five films that absolutely sucked this year

5. FIRED UP!
Yes, this is that lame movie about two guys going to cheer camp to hook up with chicks, and yes, it is as terrible as it sounds. Stupid characters, painful dialogue and jokes that simply don't work are all over this flick, which is pretty much as absurd as filmmaking can get. Wait, calling it filmmaking is a mistake in the first place. I'm just going to call it big-screen trash. Yes, that sounds about right. More about this one here.

Five best films of 2009 (so far)

5. THE SOLOIST
Even though Joe Wright's "The Soloist" did not impress me as much as I expected, I still ended up loving it, particularly because of its unforgettable story, gorgeous photography, stellar cast and marvelous soundtrack. As a film about the power of friendship and the struggle for redemption, "The Soloist" worked really well, and what I enjoyed most was Robert Downey Jr.'s honest and heartfelt performance.

Five worst films of 2009 (so far)

We're only two months into 2009, and I regret to announce I've already seen tons of bad movies this year. January was a mess, February wasnt exactly better either, and March... well, we'll see.

Below you'll find the five films I hated most this year. Of course, 2009 is far from over, but these are the worst of January/February:

5. INKHEART
I simply had to put "Inkheart" on this list because it's undoubtedly the most boring film I've seen so far this year. I decided to stick around until the end because I hoped the final part of the movie would at least be a tiny bit entertaining, but as it turned out, that was not the case.

Ten Best Movie Trailers of 2008

The year 2008 is quickly coming to a close, so I've decided to go back and pick my 10 favorite movie trailers of the year (yes, "The Dark Knight" is one of them). Before I get started, here are some notes about my selection:

I've only looked at trailers for films that were actually released in 2008. Trailers for films that won't be released until 2009 were excluded from my selection, but I will take those into consideration at the end of next year.

Also, the following list is solely based on the quality of the trailers, and they have nothing to do with my opinion about the actual movies.

Lastly, feel free to post your own selections using the comment section below.

Five worst films of the summer of '08

The summer season at the movies has come to and end, and it's time to look back at what films really stank this year. Here are the five worst films of the summer of '08.

5. MIRRORS
While he kicks serious butt on television, Kiefer Sutherland is not exactly a hero on the big screen, and his stunt in "Mirrors" is pretty much disastrous. Besides a series of cheap shock effects and a couple of ridiculous twists, Alexandre Aja's disappointing horror remake barely has anything to offer for the return of the price of admission. Scares and an intriguing story are absent.
