Movie Review: "Salt"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: July 23, 2010

The players: Director: Phillip Noyce, Writer: Kurt Wimmer, Cast: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, August Diehl

Facts of interest: Noyce also helmed "Rabbit-Proof Fence."

The plot: Angelina Jolie plays Salt, a CIA officer on the run after she's accused of being a Russian sleeper spy.

Our thoughts: Phillip Noyce’s new action thriller “Salt” may just be one of the most absurd films I’ve seen in this genre, but to tell you the truth, it’s also one awesome big-screen ride. Starring Angelina Jolie in a role she has absolutely no trouble mastering, this fast-paced flick combines intense action and a bunch of clever twists to create quite the entertaining atmosphere.

Watch three action-packed 'Salt' clips

Angelina Jolie in Salt

Phillip Noyce's action thriller "Salt" is one film I'm particularly looking forward to this summer, and luckily enough, it's opening July 23, 2010. Watch three really cool action clips from the movie below.

They're all about escapes and chases, but let's face it, that's what Angelina Jolie is good at, right? Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a tough CIA officer who is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy.

Trying to clear her name, Salt embarks on a perilous mission to prove she's loyal to her country. Also starring is Liev Schreiber, who plays Salt's boss. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a CIA counter-intelligence officer.

Angelina Jolie's 'Salt' gets new trailer

Who is Salt? We will all find out July 23, 2010, when Phillip Noyce's new thriller "Salt" will open nationwide. Angelina Jolie stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy. Trying to clear her name, Salt embarks on a perilous mission to prove she's loyal to her country. A new trailer for the film has now popped up online, and I recommend you check it out below.

The first preview was more mysterious, but this new trailer shows a bunch of new footage, including some sexy Jolie scenes. It does reveal a tad too much about story, but it still keeps my intrigued. Also starring is Liev Schreiber, who plays Salt's boss. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a CIA counter-intelligence officer. Kurt Wimmer wrote the original script, and Brian Helgeland worked on a rewrite.

Movie Review: "Repo Men"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: March 16, 2010

The players: Director: Miguel Sapochnik, Writers: Garrett Lerner, Eric Garcia, Cast: Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Alice Braga, Liev Schreiber

Facts of interest: Inspired by Eric Garcia's novel "The Repossession Mambo."

The plot: In a world where people can switch failing organs with expensive mechanical ones, repo men are trained to reclaim the artificial organs if folks can't pay for them any longer.

Our thoughts: “Repo Men” definitely boasts an interesting concept, but I feel it could’ve been explored in a much more original way. Truth be told, Miguel Sapochnik’s sci-fi movie is nothing but a gory spectacle filled with standard chases and ultra-violent battle sequences. While I’m sure many cinemagoers out there appreciate just that, I admit I was looking for a little more brain in this thing.

Daily news dose: Will Ferrell leaves 'Neighborhood;' Could Katie Holmes star in 'Sex and the City 2'?

Will Ferrell

Here's your dose of film news for August 3, 2009:

• Will Ferrell was attached to star in and David Dobkin ("Fred Claus") was set to direct 20th Century Fox's comedy "Neighborhood Watch," but both exited the project, according to Variety. The film follows a city guy who moves to suburbia, joins the neighborhood watch, and quickly uncovers a major conspiracy.

• This is just a rumor at this point, but according to TVNZ, Katie Holmes has been approached to star in "Sex and the City 2." Apparently, Holmes would play big-time company executive who will clash with Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones. I'll believe it when I see her on the screen.

• Earlier this year we found out Fox is prepping "Hitman 2," and according to ComingSoon, Timothy Olyphant said he may return as Agent 47 if the studio wanted him back. "If they want me to do another one, I supposed they could have me, yes," he said.

Here's your daily dose of film news for Feb. 19, 2009:

• Warner Bros. has acquired the North American rights to Martin Campbell's thriller "Edge of Darkness," starring Mel Gibson as a homicide detective who discovers his daughter’s (Bojana Novakovic) secret life after she’s murdered on the steps of his house. (The Hollywood Reporter)

According to Variety, the film "centers on Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who is fingered as a Russian sleeper spy. She eludes capture by superiors who are convinced she is out to assassinate the president."

• Wes Craven is apparently trying to remake "The People Under the Stairs" and "Schocker," according to Arrow in the Head. Apparently, Universal owns the rights to the flicks. "So if we all say yes we can do it. Universal can't go off and make them with somebody else," Craven said.

• Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in talks to star in Sylvain White's comic-book adaptation "The Losers" for Warner Bros. The Hollywood Reporter says the story "follows a special forces team betrayed by their handler and left for dead. New 'Defiance' clip debuts online

Yahoo recently released a brand-new clip from Edward Zwick's upcoming war drama "Defiance," which is due in theaters Jan. 16, 2009.

In the film, Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell and George MacKay play Jewish brothers who escape into the forest and join a group of Russian resistance fighters battling the Nazis.

You can check out the short clip below. Looks like Craig and Schreiber have solid performances in store for us, although I am still not quite sure about those accents.

As for Edward Zwick, he also directed "Blood Diamond" and "The Last Samurai." To be honest, I am looking much more forward to "Defiance" than Bryan Singer's "Valkyrie." How about you?

Carla Gugino to star in ‘Every Day’

Actress Carla Gugino has signed on to star in Richard Levine’s directorial debut “Every Day,” according to Variety.

The film centers on an unsatisfied writer (Liev Schreiber) of a semi-pornographic television show who neglects his wife (Helen Hunt) and struggles to ignore his sexy colleague’s (Gugino) advances.

Levine, whose writing credits include several episodes of “Nip/Tuck,” is directing his own script. “Every Day” is scheduled to begin principal photography later this month.

Gugino was last seen in Jon Avnet’s “Righteous Kill.” Her upcoming projects include “Watchmen,” “The Unborn” and “Race to Witch Mountain.”

This is certainly not the first time Gugino plays a sexy chick seducing men. Remember “Sin City”? She even kept Robert De Niro awake at night in “Righteous Kill.”
