Box Office: 'The Social Network' wins race

David Fincher's "The Social Network" easily topped the North American box office this weekend as audiences "liked" the movie chronicling the beginning of Facebook. "Network" bagged $23 million.

Starring Jesse Eisenberg as the site's founder Mark Zuckerberg, the film scored an average of $8,300 per theater at 2,771 locations. Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake co-star in "The Social Network."

Things turned out pretty lame for the weekend's remaining two releases. Renee Zellweger's crappy horror movie "Case 39" onliy made it to No. 7, generating $5.3 million in ticket sales at 2,211 locations.

David Fincher's "The Social Network" jumped to the top of the North American box office Friday with a solid $8 million in ticket sales, according to estimates. The film could finish the weekend with $24 million.

Playing at 2,771 locations, "The Social Network" scored a decent average of $2,887 per theater Friday. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, the film chronicles the creation of Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard.

This week's other wide releases underperformed a bit. Matt Reeves' horror remake "Let Me In," which stars Chloe Moretz in the lead, debuted only at No. 6, earning $1.9 million only from 2,021 sites.

'The Social Network' aims for box office glory

The Social Network will rule box office

Three wide releases will enter the box office race this weekend, but it's safe to say David Fincher's "The Social Network" will crush them all. Honestly, the film's been all over the place recently...

Needless to say, "The Social Network" should do great, considering it's backed by a big marketing campaign, superb reviews from top critics, and... oh yes, tons of honest Facebook users dying to see this.

No, not everybody who's using Facebook addictively gives a crap about how the whole thing came to be, but "The Social Network" does have the biggest release this weekend with a presence at 2,700 sites.

This week's new movie releases - Oct. 1, 2010

The Social Network is a masterpiece

Opening this week are David Fincher's "The Social Network" with Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield; Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" with Chloe Moretz; and "Case 39" with Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper.

The Social Network: Fincher's "The Social Network" chronicles the beginning of Facebook, and wow, it's a masterpiece for sure. The acting is flawless and the fast-paced plot will keep you on the edge from start to finish. This is clearly one of the best films of the year. My rating: 10/10! Don't miss it...

Let Me In: Matt Reeves' remake of the hit horror movie has been getting great reviews, even though it's supposed to be incredibly close to the original. That said, I am looking forward to see the great Chloe Moretz star as a child vampire in need of blood. My excitement rating: 8/10.

Case 39: Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper in a thriller sounds ok, but "Case 39" looks terrible. Zellweger plays a social worker taking care of a girl with abusive parents. Looks like one of those lame horror flicks using the same old cheap scares to keep audiences engaged. My excitement rating: 3/10.

Really cool 'Let Me In' feature poster hits

Here is a brand-new poster for Matt Reeves' upcoming horror remake "Let Me In," and as you can see below, it's really cool. It features lead actress Chloe Moretz as the hungry vampire chick looking for blood.

"Let Me In" follows a bullied young boy who befriends a young female vampire who lives in secrecy with her guardian. Kodi Smit-McPhee and Richard Jenkins co-star. Tomas Alfredson helmed the original.

Reeves' version hits theaters Oct. 1, 2010. I hear this version is very close to the original, and I guess that's a good sign. It would be nice to watch a remake that kind of stays true to its source flick, right?

The horror flick stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins. Tomas Alfredson directed the original, which received worldwide critical acclaim. Let's hope this one does it justice.

New poster and trailer for 'Let Me In"

The American remake of "Let the Right One In" is hitting theaters Oct. 1, 2010, and a new poster has been released on the Web, in addition to the trailer that premiered last week. See both of them below.

The poster is kind of mysterious, even though I admit they could've improved the top part of it. Something about the size and font of the Matt Reeves and "Cloverfield" writings just seems off. Not a good fit.

Other than that, I definitely like it. The trailer below also looks pretty good, although I'm sure the remake won't fully live up to the original. BUT... there's always a chance it will turn out solid enough, right?
