Will Colin Farrell star in 'Total Recall' remake?

Colin Farrell in Total Recall?

Nothing is for sure yet, but it looks like Colin Farrell is on top of the list of candidates for the lead in Len Wiseman's upcoming "Total Recall" remake, which Neal H. Moritz will produce. Who else is on the list?

Heat Vision reports it's a short one, and besides Farrell, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are also in the run for the job. That said, Farrell is the frontrunner, although no deals are in place at this moment.

The original film, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, was set in the year 2084 and followed a man who goes to Mars via a memory implant and discovers the truth about himself. Paul Verhoeven directed it.

Len Wiseman to direct 'Total Recall' remake

Paul Verhoeven's 1990 sci-fi flick "Total Recall" is being recycled into a contemporary version for Columbia Pictures, and Len Wiseman is pretty much set to direct the film, the studio announced today.

Neal H. Moritz is in talks to produce the remake of the film that was based on Philip K. Dick's story and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Kurt Wimmer, the guy behind "Salt," will write the screenplay.

"I've always been fascinated with Philip K. Dick's short story, and I'm excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks," Wiseman said about the project.

John Hlavin to write 'Underworld 4'

John Hlavin, whose credits include "The Shield" and "Trust Me," is on board to write "Underworld 4," the latest installment in the popular series that began with Len Wiseman's "Underworld" in 2003.

Hlavin told Heat Vision that plot details will remain secret for a while. However, he said "Underworld 4" won't be a prequel. "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences...," he said.

Kate Becksinale said last year she probably won't return for another film. Her appearance in a fourth film has been rumored for a while though, but no official deals are in place at this stage.

Len Wiseman to direct 'Shrapnel' adaptation

Here's how the story goes: Len Wiseman strolled around some comic book stores with his kid, he stumbled across a graphic novel titled "Shrapnel," and soon after, he had his agent pursue the big-screen rights.

It's funny how some things fall into place so fast, isn't it? According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wiseman is set to direct the adaptation of "Shrapnel" for Radical Pictures.

The story is set in the future, when humans have taken over the solar system and are working hard to govern the planets. Things don't go according to plan on Venus, where a rebellious spirit reigns and a former Marine instructs the colonists how to fight back.

Okay, this could be an interesting story. Wiseman last directed "Live Free or Die Hard," and his credits also include the first two "Underworld" flicks. He's also got "Motorcade," "Gears of War" and "Atlantis Rising" coming up in the near future. And just in case you somehow missed it, he's the lucky dude who married Kate Beckinsale.

'Atlantis Rising' finds writer

Joby Harold is in talks to write the big-screen adaptation of Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's the sci-fi comic book series "Atlantis Rising," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Len Wiseman is directing the film, which focuses on an evil underground civilization that emerges from under the ocean to engage in a war with the rest of the world.

Harold made his feature film debut with last year's mediocre thriller "Awake," which he wrote and helmed. Producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are happy with Harold negotiating a deal.

"As a writer, Joby has an amazingly strong understanding of how to take genre seriously, which is prerequisite No. 1 for us when it comes to these kinds of movies," Kurtzman told THR.

DreamWorks is developing "Atlantis Rising." Wiseman's credits include "Underworld," "Underworld: Evolution" and "Live Free or Die Hard."

Len Wiseman to interrupt 'Motorcade'

Filmmaker Len Wiseman is in talks to direct DreamWorks' upcoming thriller "Motorcade," according to Variety.

Originally written by Hans Bauer and Craig Mitchell, the story centers on terrorists attacking the president's motorcade in Los Angeles.

The trade says Billy Ray, director of "Breach," is rewriting the screenplay. Wiseman most recently directed "Live Free or Die Hard." He also helmed the first two "Underworld" flicks.

Final word: Considering the United States has just elected a new president, I'm glad this project is only in early developmental stages instead of being ready for a theatrical release.
