He's currently in talks with Relativity Media to direct the big-screen version of Sparks' "Safe Haven." Dana Stevens penned the script, and according to Deadline, this deal will happen pretty quickly.

Interview with Channing Tatum, star of 'Dear John'

Channing Tatum in Dear John

I recently had a chance to sit down and chat with Channing Tatum during a round-table interview here in San Francisco, and here's what he had to say regarding his latest movie "Dear John," which co-stars Amanda Seyfried and is currently playing in theaters. Tatum also starred in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra."

The film tells story of John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a young soldier home on leave, and Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), the idealistic college student he falls in love with during her spring vacation. Over the next seven tumultuous years, the couple is separated by John's increasingly dangerous deployments.

Movie Review: “Dear John”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: January 28, 2010

The players: Director: Lasse Hallstrom, Writer: Jamie Linden, Cast: Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, Richard Jenkins, Henry Thomas

Facts of interest: Based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks.

The plot: A solider falls in love with a girl while he's on leave, and they two enter a turbulent long-distance relationship.

Our thoughts: Ready for some hardcore, over-the-top drama that requires strong nerves and a bunch of patience to sit through? If that answer’s yes, make sure you don’t miss Lasse Hallstrom’s “Dear John,” a flat, through and through cheesy and yet partly entertaining big-screen adaptation of yet another Nicholas Sparks novel.

Richard Jenkins joins ‘Dear John’ adaptation

Richard Jenkins has signed on to star in Lasse Hallstrom’s adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks bestseller “Dear John.”

Also on board is Amanda Seyfried, who plays a young woman falling in love with a solider (Channing Tatum) while he’s on leave.

The Hollywood Reporter says Jenkins is set to play Tatum’s father. The film is currently shooting, with Hallstrom directing a screenplay by Jamie Linden.

Jenkins most recently starred in Joel and Ethan Coen’s “Burn After Reading.” He also delivered a strong performance in Thomas McCarthy’s recent drama “The Visitor.”

Final word: Yeah, Jenkins truly is a fine actor, and I can only hope to see him around on the big screen more often.
