Review: "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1"

Seen on: November 16, 2011 | Reviewed by Danny Alves | The players: Director: Bill Condon, Writer: Melissa Rosenberg, Cast: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner | Fact of interest: The sex scene between Bella and Edward on their honeymoon had to be cut down in order to receive a PG13 rating.

The plot: The fourth movie in the “Twilight” series. Here, Bella and Edward get married and get pregnant on their honeymoon, causing the usual beef between werewolves and vampires..

Our thoughts: I should start by admitting that I actually enjoy the"Twilight" movies, and I really don’t even like the books! It's not so much that I don’t read; I really do. The thing is, I simply like the setup of this franchise; you know, the whole "vampires vs. werewolves walking amongst us"  and the "forbidden love triangle." I eat that crap up!

That said, I cannot stand Bella Swan. It's a harsh statement, but she is just so uninteresting and annoying, it’s hard to imagine  she’d ever garner the undying love on, not one, but TWO hot mythical creatures! And the books are written in her 1st person perspective!

The cast of 'Snow White and the Huntsman' grows

With Universal Pictures gearing up for its future take on the "Snow White" story, I knew that we were sure to get an onslaught of casting news sooner or later. The film will mark the directorial debut for Rupert Sanders, and it's a revisionist take on the fairy tale.

THR is reporting that comedian Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, and Tobey Jones are all in negotiations to play warrior dwarfs in the action-adventure film. These actors will join Ian Shane, who was recently cast as the dwarf leader.

The film features Snow White (Kristen Stewart) as a princess who escapes her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron) with the help of a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was to have killed her but now trains the princess to survive and fight back.

Watch: 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' trailer

The first trailer for Bill Condon's "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" has landed online, so watch it below before it gets pulled and we have to wait for it to officially drop. If it does disappear, we'll update with a new version as soon as we find one.

The first of two films will hit theaters Nov. 18, 2011, while the second part will drop Nov. 16, 2012. It's the big finale in the popular series based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer, and it looks like Bella and Edward will spend most of the film having sex.

Anyway, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Michael Sheen return to reprise their roles. Also back in action are Ashley Greene, Anna Kendrick, Nikki Reed, Billy Burke and Dakota Fanning. Who's excited?

First 'Breaking Dawn' footage revealed!

Count me among those who could not care less about "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" and its follow-up. That said, I understand many of you love these things, and today, MTV has revealed the first footage from the Bill Condon-helmed flick. Check it out.

It's really not much. I guess there's a wedding going on here, but that's all you get for now. In the final two films in the series, Bella, Edward and Jacob get into more trouble, and I bet there's going to be more fighting between all these vamps and werewolves as well.

'Snow White' release battle heats up!

It seems like a duel has broken out between Relativity Media and Universal over which studio will get their Snow White film out to the public first. Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" will star Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, and it was originally slated for a December 2012 release.

However, after Relativity Media's announcement of "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White" project, which is set to star Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer, the two studios have been pushing up their release dates in order to get their Snow White to the big screen first.

Watch the new 'Welcome to the Rileys' trailer

"Welcome to the Rileys" got some attention when it played at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and the drama is heading to theaters Nov. 5, 2010. You'll find the trailer for the flick right after the jump.

Essentially, the film around a couple (James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo) driven apart by the death of their daughter but brought back together when they meet a troubled young woman (Kristen Stewart).

Ken Hixon wrote the script and Jake Scott directed. "Rileys" promises a bunch of heavy drama, but it looks like the cast manages the material pretty well. To tell you the truth, I'm intrigued and ready to see more.

Movie Review: "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: June 30, 2010

The players: Director: David Slade, Writer: Melissa Rosenberg, Cast: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Anna Kendrick, Billy Burke

Facts of interest: Slade also helmed "30 Days of Night."

The plot: Bella is back, and she's still having trouble deciding between dead-looking Edward and the warm Jacob.

Our thoughts: The vampires and werewolves are back on the big screen, and this time, they all look a little more agitated. Well, part of it is certainly because we’re getting closer to the end of “The Twilight Saga,” and that means things should technically heat up, right? Even though David Slade’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” does indeed pack a bit more punch than its predecessors, I’m sorry to announce that in my book, it’s still coming up short.

'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' breaks midnight records!

David Slade's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is already a huge hit, because the third installment in the ridiculously popular vampire series generated a massive $30 million from midnight screenings!

"Eclipse" had multiple midnight shows per theater at more than 4,000 locations, beating the $26.3 million midnight record set by "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." About $1 million came from IMAX shows.

"Eclipse" will also easily win this 4th of July weekend, although it's not sure the movie will beat the opening weekend gross of "New Moon." Still, Summit will certainly be pleased with the sequel's results.

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - What did you think?

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" broke records yesterday by bagging $30 million from midnight screenings, but what I want to know is: what did you guys think of this third installment in the popular series???

The early screening I attended this morning was rather empty, but that's understandable, because the movie plays every 30 minutes between 9.30 in the morning and midnight. Isn't that completely nuts?

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner return in "Eclipse," and Bella must further decide what to do while some new vamps are getting ready to invade Forks and create some big mayhem...

Anyway, I am just about to get started on my review (spoiler: I didn't love it but liked it more than "New Moon"), so please share your thoughts below. And as usual: keep this a friendly discussion.
