Javier Bardem is out of “Killing Pablo,” but director Joe Carnahan has already found someone to replace him. According to Chud, Edgar Ramirez is in to play Colombian crime lord Pablo Escobar.

Ramirez previously starred in Paul Greengrass’ “The Bourne Ultimatum,” and he recently appeared in Pete Travis’ “Vantage Point.” He will next be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” flicks “Guerrilla” and “The Argentine.”

“"I spent the last week in Colombia with Edgar Ramirez talking 'Pablo' and he has every intention of portraying Escobar and I couldn't be more fired up by the prospect,” Carnahan told the folks over at Chud in an email.

Carnahan’s credits also include “Narc” and “Smokin’ Aces.” He also collaborated on the screenplay for Gavin O’Connor’s upcoming crime drama “Pride and Glory.”

Sure, Bardem would have made a great Pablo, but Ramirez’s also got the right look. Now he just needs to put on some weight.
