Movie Review: “Saw VI”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: October 23, 2009

The players: Director: Kevin Greutert, Writers: Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton, Cast: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Shawnee Smith

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: When the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Our thoughts: Kevin Greutert’s “Saw VI” definitely fails to revitalize the popular big-screen horror series, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s not as bad an installment as its two most recent predecessors. One thing is for certain though: this sixth film is still bloody and gives cinemagoers a better insight into Jigsaw’s entire scheme.

Saw VI trailer

It's that time of the year again. Halloween is approaching fast, and so is Kevin Greutert's upcoming horror sequel "Saw VI." A new and final trailer for the film has just debuted online, and you can see it below.

This preview is almost as short as its predecessor, but at least it features all-new footage and gives us a look at some traps and Jigsaw, who says he's still among us in one way or the other. Of course he is...

Another 'Saw VI' photo debuts online

SAW VI photo

The Oct. 23, 2009 release of Kevin Greutert's upcoming horror sequel "Saw VI" is approaching fast, and today I have another new photo from the film to share with you. It first appeared on officialsawnews.com.

I can't really tell what's exactly going on in this still, but it seems to involve some kind of trap. I know it's not really original, but then again, none of the "Saw" sequels are. Check out more recent pictures here.

Two new 'Saw VI' photos debut online

Tobin Bell in Saw VI

Two new photos from Kevin Greutert's upcoming horror sequel "Saw VI" recently appeared online on the site's Facebook page, and you can check them out above and after the jump. Oh, look! It's Jigsaw!

Indeed. Tobin Bell returns as Jigsaw in the sixth installment in the horror series, and as you can see here, he doesn't look too good. Even though he's dead, I guess there's still a lot we don't know about the guy.

First official 'Saw VI' photo lands online

First photo from Saw VI

The very first official photo from Kevin Greutert's horror sequel "Saw VI" has debuted online, and you can check it out above. What you see here is another deadly trap situation, and for a second there, I thought it had Jigsaw there in the back? Could it be him? Nah... or maybe? We'll see...

Here is the synopsis for the sequel: Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Lame 'Saw VI' teaser invades the web

Soon, it will be that time of the year again. Time for the latest "Saw," that is. Kevin Greutert's horror sequel "Saw VI" opens Oct. 23, 2009, and the flick's first teaser trailer just hit the Web for fans of the franchise to enjoy. Check it out below, if you dare.

Here is the synopsis: Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Fair enough. Alas, this teaser doesn't show us anything. Okay, I know a teaser is supposed to briefly introduce a movie only, but in my opinion, it also has to have that special something that actually manages to captivate viewers.

This one, however, didn't impress me at all, and I can only hope future trailers will be a tad more exciting than this snooze. Then again, maybe I'm just tired of the whole "Saw" thing. The franchise lost me after the third film already.

'Saw VI' gets a so-so motion poster

Sure, motion posters are a cool thing... as long as they're pretty awesome. While I've already come across some great ones during the past months (the one for "Terminator Salvation" was sweet), I've also seen some that failed to intrigue me.

Anyway, a new motion poster for "Saw VI" just popped up at Yahoo! Movies, and you can check it out below. Okay, it starts off interesting enough, but I admit I don't really like where it's heading. In other words, it could've been a lot more intense, don't you think?

Directed by Kevin Greutert, "Saw VI" will hit theaters Oct. 23, 2009. Synopsis: Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Here's the official 'Saw VI' synopsis

If you haven't seen "Saw V" yet, you may want to skip this post or stop reading right now. Yes, it's your only spoiler warning. Anyway, the official synopsis for Kevin Greutert's upcoming "Saw VI" has hit the Web, and here it is: "Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood." (via Joblo)

Could this mean the sixth installment in the popular horror series will be the last one we'll see? Well, if "Saw VI" pulls in as much money as its predecessors, I'm not so sure of that. On the other hand, I just realized IMDb has "Game Over" listed as the film's official tagline. Who knows, maybe Jigsaw's terror reign is coming to an end. "Saw VI" opens Oct. 23, 2009.

'Saw VI' to be 'a lot more violent,' says producer

"Saw VI" is about to head into principal photography this month, and Twisted Pictures producer Mark Burg has some big news for fans of the franchise.

Talking to ShockTillYouDrop, Burg said the following about the upcoming sixth installment in the popular horror series:

"Shawnee Smith [as Amanda] is in Saw VI. There are several new characters. Also, this movie is a lot more violent than the previous five."

The return of Amanda, of course, probably means this sequel will continue to revisit some of the past films. I mean, using this structure is how they keep this franchise alive, right?

Burg also said "Saw VI" will feature victims turning against each other, and that the script "could be the best script yet."

I don't know about you, but I've grown a little tired of the "Saw" series, primarily because I just don't see the franchise advancing in an innovative way. But who knows...

Anyway, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton wrote the script for the film, which Kevin Greutert will direct. "Saw VI" is set to open Oct.23, 2009.
