Movie Review: 'Saw 3D'

Seen on: October 29, 2010

The players: Director: Kevin Greutert, Writers: Patrick Melton, Marcus Dunstan, Cast: Tobin Bell, Costar Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Dean Armstrong, Gina Holden

Facts of interest: Last film of the series. Or not?

The plot: The traps are alive and the deadly games continue for another round of bloody horror. Jigsaw's spirit is still around too...

Our thoughts: It sure took long enough, but it looks like one of the most profitable horror franchises in the past decade is finally coming to end. “Saw 3D” is supposedly the last installment of the series, and as a result, the filmmakers behind this seventh flick made sure to stuff it with tons of blood and some of the nastiest traps yet.

'Paranormal Activity 2' director drama ridiculous!

I told you "Paranormal Activity 2" was a bad idea. The project is CURSED. Not that I care though... Anyway, Kevin Greutert was supposed to direct the sequel to Orel Peli's surprise hit, but he's not doing it anymore.

Deadline Hollywood first reported that Lionsgate "exercised a contractual option" to bring back Greutert to direct "Saw VII," another sequel no one wants to see. Greutert, by the way, also directed "Saw VI."

Both "Saw VII" and "Paranormal Activity 2" are set for release Oct. 22, 2010, but I guess Lionsgate got cold feet, knowing "Paranormal" will probably slash "Saw" at the box office. It wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway, Greutert is obviously pissed about all this, and he recently complained about this mess on his blog. The post is gone now, but wow, he sounded ticked off. You can read more on that right here.

My two cents: Both Paramount and Lionsgate should kick themselves big time. Paramount for making a sequel to a great little horror film, and Lionsgate for not being able to create decent new content.

'Paranormal Activity 2' finds new director

'Paranormal Activity 2' has a writer, director, release date...

The worst thing that can happen to Orel Peli's surprise hit "Paranormal Activity" is a sequel, and that's exactly what Paramount Pictures is developing at the moment. The studio thinks it's a great idea because the film made so much money, but in my book, it's just another terrible Hollywood decision.

Yeah, they mess up shit all the time, so why not continue? Fact is, "Activity" is a great experiment that worked out so well, and I firmly believe the world does not need "Paranormal Activity 2." But hey, what do I know, right?

Anyway, Heat Vision reports Paramount has hired Michael R. Perry to write the sequel and Kevin Greutert to direct it. Greutert last directed "Saw VI." On top of that, it looks like the sequel will open Oct. 22, 2010. Hey! Wait! That's the same weekend "Saw VII" hits theaters!

Peli will stay on board to produce, and I sure hope he will at least have some say in this thing. In case you missed it, "Paranormal Activity" was produced on a $15,000 budget and ended up making more than $150 million worldwide. It was the biggest surprise of 2009.

Movie Review: “Saw VI”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: October 23, 2009

The players: Director: Kevin Greutert, Writers: Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton, Cast: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Shawnee Smith

Facts of interest: None.

The plot: When the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Our thoughts: Kevin Greutert’s “Saw VI” definitely fails to revitalize the popular big-screen horror series, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s not as bad an installment as its two most recent predecessors. One thing is for certain though: this sixth film is still bloody and gives cinemagoers a better insight into Jigsaw’s entire scheme.

Another 'Saw VI' photo debuts online

SAW VI photo

The Oct. 23, 2009 release of Kevin Greutert's upcoming horror sequel "Saw VI" is approaching fast, and today I have another new photo from the film to share with you. It first appeared on officialsawnews.com.

I can't really tell what's exactly going on in this still, but it seems to involve some kind of trap. I know it's not really original, but then again, none of the "Saw" sequels are. Check out more recent pictures here.
