Kate Beckinsale to return for 'Underworld 4'

Kate Beckinsale in Underworld 4

A real surprise? Not exactly. Even though she said she wouldn't, Kate Beckinsale is heading back to the "Underworld" franchise for a fourth installment of the series. Yep, sexy Selene is back in action.

ComingSoon reports Beckinsale has already signed on for the part. John Hlavin wrote the script for "Underworld 4," and J. Michael Straczynski is doing revisions. Screen Gems is looking for a director.

I definitely liked Beckinsale in the the first two films and had some trouble adjusting to Rhona Mitra's Sonja in "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans," so I'm glad she's back. Beckinsale starred in "Whiteout."

Review: "Everybody's Fine"

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: November 30, 2009

The players: Director: Kirk Jones, Writer: Kirk Jones, Cast: Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell

Facts of interest: Kirk Jones also directed "Nanny McPhee."

The plot: A widower decides to embark on a journey to visit his busy children.

Our thoughts: The troubled characters in “Everybody’s Fine” are all okay by the end of the movie, but their road to happiness sure is a tedious one. No, I really didn’t enjoy Kirk Jones’ latest family drama, and one of the reasons why I couldn’t connect with it is the film’s predictability and lack of a sophisticated story line.

Watch Robert De Niro in 'Everybody's Fine' trailer

Everybody's Fine with Robert De Niro and Drew Barrymore

This looks like something that could be a sweet, amusing dramedy: Kirk Jones' upcoming "Everybody's Fine," which stars Robert De Niro, Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell and will hit theaters Dec. 4, 2009. Check out the film's first trailer after the jump.

In the flick, a widower (De Niro) embarks on an impromptu road trip to reconnect with each of his grown children only to discover that their lives are far from picture perfect.

Of course, the first thing that intrigues me here is the solid cast, which I'm really looking forward to experience in this film. I mean, who wouldn't want to see De Niro, Beckinsale, Barrymore and Rockwell work together?

'I Can Do Bad All By Myself' tops Friday box office

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

As expected, Tyler Perry's latest drama "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" jumped to the top of the North American box office Friday with an esimated $8.6 million in ticket sales from 2,255 locations.

The film failed to reach the $14 million opening-day gross of Perry's last film "Madea Goes to Jail," but for a Friday opening leading into what is certainly a quiet weekend at the box office, "Bad All By Myself" did pretty well.

Movie Review: “Whiteout”

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Seen on: September 11, 2009

The players: Director: Dominic Sena, Writers: Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chad Hayes, Carey Hayes, Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Macht, Tom Skerritt, Columbus Short, Alex O'Loughlin

Facts of interest: Sena also directed "Swordfish."

The plot: Kate Beckinsale plays a U.S. Marshal sent to investigate a brutal murder in the middle of Antarctica.

Our quick thoughts: After an eight-year absence from the big screen, Dominic Sena returns with “Whiteout,” an action thriller that makes me wish he would have stayed away for a couple of more years. Dump, predictable and incredibly monotonous, this film is one to avoid like a plague. In other words, it’s a cinematic catastrophe.

Watch Kate Beckinsale in new 'Whiteout' trailer

Kate Beckinsale in new Whiteout trailer

Here's a brand-new trailer for Dominic Sena's upcoming action thriller "Whiteout," due in theaters Sept. 11, 2009. I can't say this feature preview overwhelmed me, but it includes a few shots of Kate Beckinsale taking a shower, which is a great way to catch my attention.

In the film based on Greg Rucka's graphic novel, Beckinsale plays a deputy marshal heading to Antarctica to investigate a ruthless murder before the threatening arctic winter begins. Something is awfully wrong up there, and judging by this footage, Beckinsale will kick butt and more than likely fix the problem.

This trailer draws some comparisons to the previously released teaser, but the second part features a whole bunch of new footage. Beckinsale sure knows how to handle an action role, and I have a feeling her presence on the screen will help lure people into theaters.

If you're up for a big CGI snow storm, shoot-outs, and a big, silly plane crash, don't miss this "Whiteout" trailer. It looks pretty intense, despite the fact that it failed to fully intrigue me.

Kate Beckinsale in the new 'Whiteout' trailer

Kate Beckinsale in the new Whiteout trailer

The lovely Kate Beckinsale will kick some serious butt in the upcoming action thriller "Whiteout," and a first teaser trailer for the flick has just surfaced online. Take a look after the jump.

In the film based on Greg Rucka's graphic novel, Beckinsale plays a deputy marshal heading to Antarctica to investigate a nasty murder before the threatening arctic winter begins.

This first teaser doesn't really show us much. The whole introduction about how challenging the six-month darkness is isn't exactly enlightening, and there's certainly a whole lot more they could have done with this to make it look a tad more intriguing.

Well, the collection of footage at the end at least gives us a quick look at the tough Beckinsale and her apparent struggles to keep her cool on the snow. Anyone out there read the graphic novel? If so, let me know what you think about it.

Trailer radar: 'Nothing But the Truth'

Moviefone today debuted the first trailer for Rod Lurie's upcoming political drama "Nothing But the Truth," starring Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, Alan Alda, Noah Wyle, Angela Bassett and Vera Farmiga.

In the film, Beckinsale plats a political journalist who writes a risky story about a government scandal in which she also reveals the true identity of an undercover CIA agent. But when she refuses to give up her source, she quickly find herself behind bars.

I highly suggest you check out this trailer after the jump; it looks like an intriguing story with some solid performances. You will be able to find out the whole truth in select theaters Dec. 19.

No more ‘Underworld’ flick for Kate Beckinsale?

It’s not that surprising, but actress Kate Beckinsale doubts she’ll ever return as Selene for another “Underworld” sequel.

Although Beckinsale starred in the first two films of the franchise, she won’t appear in the upcoming prequel “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans,” which is set for release Jan. 23, 2009.

In a recent interview with ComingSoon, she said she’s not sure whether to do another film: "I feel like I've played that character enough times that I don't think I'd be excited to play the same character again. It's a weird experience.”

To be honest, I didn’t expect her to return anyway. I enjoyed the first “Underworld” and hated the second, and I wouldn’t want her to return to something that lost its originality after the first flick.

If you can’t wait to see Beckinsale back on the big screen, watch out for Rod Lurie’s upcoming “Nothing But the Truth,” which opens later this year. She’ll also topline Dominic Sena’s next action thriller “Whiteout.”
