Olivia Thirlby boards 'Judge Dredd' remake

Actress Olivia Thirlby will be joining Karl Urban in DNA Films' new version of "Judge Dredd," which Pete Travis ("Vantage Point") will direct from a script by Alex Garland ("Sunshine," "Never Let Me Go"). 

The film will be shot in 3D, and Variety says Thirlby will play Cassandra Anderson, a rookie working with the lead character. Thirlby is known for her roles in "Juno," "The Wackness" and "New York, I Love You."

She's also got "Never Let Me Go" coming soon. "Dredd" is now on track for a 2012 relese. Travis also directed "Omagh." The original "Judge Dredd" opened in 1995 and starred Sylvester Stallone.

'Red' heads into principal photography

Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Ernest Borgnine, Julian McMahon, James Remar and Rebecca Pidgeon are all starring in  Robert Schwentke's upcoming thriller "Red," which is now filming. 'True Blood' actor Moyer joins 'Priest'

Lots of "Priest" news lately, as the cast for Scott Stewart's horror adventure is still growing. The latest to join the upcoming Screen Gems project are Stephen Moyer from HBO's "True Blood" and Lily Collins, who appeared on a couple of episodes of the recent "90210" reboot.

Cory Goodman wrote the screenplay for the project, which follows a warrior priest (Paul Bettany) who turns his back on the church to free his kidnapped niece from the hands of some ruthless vampires. Karl Urban will play the head villain, and Maggie Q is on board as a priestess vampire hunter.

Karl Urban is the bad guy in 'Priest'

Casting for Scott Stewart's upcoming "Priest" is still in progress, and the latest to join the big-screen adaptation of TokyoPop's comic book of the same title is Karl Urban. He will play the movie's main villain.

Cory Goodman wrote the screenplay for the project, which follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns his back on the church to free his kidnapped niece from the hands of some ruthless vampires.

The Hollywood Reporter says Urban is set to play Black Hat, leader of the vampires who used to be a priest but now prefers to be considered a god of vampires.

Karl Urban, Adriana Barraza plunge into 'Darkness'

Karl Urban and Adriana Barraza have signed on to star in Marcos Efron's upcoming remake "And Soon the Darkness."

The Hollywood Reporter says the two are joining the already cast Amber Heard ("Remember the Daze") and Odette Yustman ("The Unborn").

The plot centers on two American girls who are enjoying a lovely a bike trip in Argentina when one of them disappears and the other one must find her before darkness falls.

Robert Fuest directed the original "And Soon the Darkness" in 1970. Pamela Franklin and Michele Dotrice starred.

Urban's credits include "Pathfinder," "Doom" and "The Bourne Supremacy." He will soon be seen in "Star Trek." As for Barraza, she was seen in "Babel." She will soon star in "Drag Me to Hell."

The story here sounds like something we've seen many times before, but with Heard and Yustman in the lead roles, there's plenty to look at for sure.

Four new ‘Star Trek’ character posters pop up

J.J. Abrams’ reboot of “Star Trek” won’t hit theaters until May 8, 2009, but that’s no reason for Paramount not to kick off an early marketing campaign. TrekMovie recently caught a glimpse at four new character posters from the upcoming sci-fi action flick, and you can check out all of them below.

The new posters feature John Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Chekov and Karl Urban as McCoy. I’ve never been a gigantic “Star Trek” fans, but I do have to admit I am looking forward to this new take on one of the most popular sci-fi franchises ever. Also starring are Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto.
